I wonder if it has anything to do with this:
Companies have been known to changes characters enough (legally), either by design or by story, so that they do not have to pay because it's enough of a change to constitute a new character.
Just food for thought.
By the way, the law in which Joe Simon used to reaquire (or in this case, settle) his rights to Captain America is the same law that Disney is trying to vigorously change so they don't loose their rights to their characters (real soon).
Hope he got a *****load of money from Marvel!!!

P.S. I don't feel the same way towards Stan Lee though...he should roast on a spike.
