Man of Steel costume at Comic-Con

This is the first (fairly clear) shot I've seen of the whole costume.

I think it works. I wish they could have just adapted the suit straight, but I understand they have to differentiate it from previous incarnations somewhat, especially just coming 6-7 years after Returns. The detailing bothers me a bit, but it does harken back to some of the stuff Joe Shuster hinted at here and there in the early days (Action #1 cover). The dark blue and true red combo reminds me a bit of the Fleischer shorts, and the boots are very traditional. I like the big "S", and the slightly "Earth-Two" vibe it gives off doesn't bother me either.

I'm still missing the trunks, and a true belt would have helped. I think the top and bottom are fine, it's the middle that seems off and too bare. Needs something to break it up. But again, I think it will work.

Just looking at it here, I have to say I like it better than the Returns suit, which is a bit odd. The Returns suit was, in a way, more traditional, but it tweaked every aspect of the suit, and not in a good way. This presents many of the elements (the colors, the "S", etc) how I'd like to see them.

I like this about as much as I like the Batman costumes in the movies.

    I do like the "S."

If the film is good and true to the core of Superman with action, I'll get over it. Wish I could have made it to San Diego this year. Would love to see the footage DC Entertainment is showing on Saturday. However, I really loved the preview Singer showed the year before Superman Returns was released, so a preview does not always tell the tale. Tone of the movie was totally different from the preview.

Couldn't the crotch area not be so defined? Lois won't have to ask about his super junk in this film. It's almost on display.

It's funny that as different as this is from past incarnations, something about it makes notable sense to me.

I really don't care for rubber super suits and for superman even less so. As I have been catching the reruns of Lois and clark on hub recently I am reminded that Spandex can work if the guy has the right build. This suit - too Eradicator superman for my taste. At least in the batman films they can come up with a valid reason why the suits aren't spandex

I've seen cosplayers that show how much like the actual comic you can make an outfit. I think the rubber suits are kinda like the piping on the tights in the comics: it's an attempt to add more visuals for a new format. You've got so much going on in any movie nowadays a dude in tights looks kinda plain and doesn't stand out.

....not that I'm AGREEING with the practice....

Sort of. Even that bothered me 'cos in the comics Batman didn't need armour; he relied on speed and skill. The armour is an attempt to "realistic" things up for a wider audience. At least he can move his head in the new suits.... to escape the '89 Batman all you had to do was stand beside him.

Well, Batman is human, so he could benefit from armor.... and, yes, it's tougher to "realistically" justify why Supes
would (or should) change up his 1930s circus-performer/1980s hairmetal fashion sense.

But the amusing thing (to me) is that Batman gets a pass because it's a more realistic scenario.
Why does Batman... or any other hero... have to be so hyper realistic? Superheroes aren't real people to begin with.
All the realism in the world ain't helpin' me with a movie vibe.

I'm game for the more rubbery suit.... I like the bright red aginst the medium blue. Works for me.

Human or not, it's time Superman changed it up a bit, if only to prep his look to synch up w/other modern heroes
                              for a JLA movie.
