I just noticed on the two Alex Ross pieces he included Night Girl (of the Legion of Subs). I know she was Cosmc Boy's girlfriend but she wasn't a member of that era, so why include her?

Excuse my ignorance, but in one shot pieces, Ross wouldn't have any restrictions would he?

No, but on the cover to Back Issue I posted, Ross is paying homage to the cover that Grell originally did in the 70s. But he actually added everyone that was a Legionnaire up to that time (including the deceased Ferro Lad). Night Girl wasn't a member, and wouldn't be until decades later, but he included her anyway, even though he didn't include any other Subs, even Polar Boy who was admitted into the team before Night Girl.

On the long, vertical piece Ross did, it's clearly his version of the 70s swimsuit era Legion, and yet again he added Night Girl. I can only assume it's retroactive wishful thinking on his part, much like when he includes Plastic Man and Shazam as members of the 70s era Satellite JLA. Artistic license I guess...

Even at a really young age (3 or 4), I have to admit I admired the Saturn 70s swimsuit. Cosmic Boy's Grell outfit...not so much. How did that even WORK? Poor guy wore pink for 20 years... and then THAT.

Swimsuit Saturn Girl is what sold me on the Legion I'm not ashamed to admit. The similarities between her and Farrah Fawcett, another 70s crush did not go unnoticed
                Bingo.

Loved the covers from the two Legion tabloids as well as Ross' homages to the first one.

Cockrum did a great job redesigning the costumes and those remain my favored versions. Cockrum's art was a little too cartoony for me.

I made a Cosmic Boy figure using black duct tape, a mego body and Mr. Scott head when I was a kid. Captain Marvel with a Batman cape and boots was Mon-el, Superman as Super boy, Aquaman in a blue action Jackson jump suit and white ski boots was Lightning lad. I just used Iron Man as Wildfire. Captain Kirk head with Lizard's lab coat, trek pants and Capt. Marvel boots was Karate Kid. Mr. Spock in an Aquaman suit was Chamelon Boy. Used a wild bill Head and a batman suit w/o cape and gloves and some brown buts for Timber Wolf. Imagination went a long way with those customs. I was always mixing and matching costumes and heads to play JSA, Legion, X-Men and JLA.

Levitz did some nice stories with Giffen, but I've never been a fan of his style. I liked Staton better.

While I enjoy Adams, Ross , Perez and Jimenez and Reis' art (each of them are among my favorites), I don't really consider them "Legion artists" because they never did a run on the book. But I really did enjoy the Johns/ Perez mini series that was out a few years ago.

You know in the pink outfit, Saturn Girl didn't have to read minds to know what the guys were thinking.

That's an excellent sketch of Cosmic Boy. The character would have felt right at home in the Magic Mike movie.

A lot of that 70's stuff design wise is just ugghh-o.

I still remember a kid in grade school describing Cosmic Boy's new costume to me (I hadn't seen the issue yet)... "It's like his old costume but he took some scissors and cut all
                                the pink off."
