I don't believe the usher's story about people leaving ASM for a second. Having seen it twice already, neither was packed, but both audiences clapped at the end.

We saw it tonight, thoroughly enjoyed it! Great story, good action sequences, nicely developed characters and even a little heart. You couldn't pay me to go view "TED", sophomoric crap is all that is.

I saw Ted as well, and I liked it, lol.

But love or hate it, come on, you can't compare Ted to Spidey, for one thing, Ted is rated R, and was made with a much cheaper budget, so come on now...lol.

If Dark Knight Rises is better than Spider-Man and the Avengers, it's going to be one heck of a movie. Both films have set the bar high. But Nolan's a heck of a director and I'm expecting DKR to be very good. I have a feeling it's going to come down to personal taste for a lot of us in determining which one is our personal favorite. Right now I favor Spider-Man slightly over Avengers because it had more heart, Emma Stone and possibly because I've seen it more recently. Obviously, the Avengers is the bigger achievement not only because of the box office but also because so many doubted a film with multiple super-heroes could work. Whedon certainly dispelled that notion.

Though it wasn't adapted from a comic series — I don't think — Chronicle is also a very good film that focuses on super powers. If you've not seen and are looking for something to rent this summer, give it a look. Despite the poor reviews, I enjoyed John Carter quite a bit. Not as much as Spidey, Avengers, Chronicle or Lincoln, but I thought it was fun. Great special effects.

It's been a really good year for super-hero/fantasy/horror flicks.

Spider-Man's biggest enemy this summer is my 7 year old, who declared "Spider-man is dumb" last night.

That leaves 3 of the 4 people in my household wanting to see it . Anybody want to go see Ice Age 3 with a polite seven year old girl? I'll pay!

I'm surprised so many little kids are taken with the LIZARD... that's one freaky looking character.
Raimi's Venom seemed like a teddybear comparitively.

Don't get me wrong, I have fond recollections of the Marvel character from my childhood
and enjoyed seeing him "live" finally.

So many of us as little kids are fascinated with reptiles... so why not have a thing for a supervillain one?
But this one just seemed a bit too "extreme" for me.

I feel this Spider-Man movie has follwed Bat-Nolan into the more "real" area of movies
and that aspect made me uncomfortable... not just with the graphic Lizard, but also with the overall dryness
of plot and dialogue (some of which was writtend performed outstandingly, I should add).

I am also quite shocked that the "We hate CGI contingent" appears squarely behind this movie.
"Why is that?" I've wondered. I NEVER felt so taken out of a familliar franchise due to what was either
harsh CGI or harsh camera movement and/or editing than in this movie... Raimi, Lucas, etc etc. NOTHING
has come close in that regard, for me personally.

This guy playing Spidey/Peter was pretty good... but Tobey came across as more likable.

The quips... the smart alecky attitude that Spidey shows in this movie seemed TOO REAL
and thus made Spidey to seem kinda obnoxious... not in a "Golly gee" kinda way,
but in that "play with your head" kinda way that I'm sure other fans embrace 100%
but to me come off a tad too haughty for my tastes.

I'm sure, like Nolan's Batfilms, I'll begin to synch up with this new Spidey the longer I am
forced to live with him... but, yeah, this movie left me a bit shaken and stirred.
More than I would have liked.

^I disagree on Tobey being more likable. Looking over the entire series of films, his Peter seems rather self-centered. I think it's because they covered some of the times Peter forgets the lesson he learned from Uncle Ben, which he did do periodically in the comics. But over the coure of just 8 or so hours, it makes Peter look pretty thick-headed that he has to be constantly reminded of his motivation for being Spider-Man.

Now they may take Garfield's version in the same direction, but I got the impression that Garfield's Peter was more content with himself and confident from the get-go. Maguire's Parker was pretty miserable at times throughout the series.

...which (to me) would make Tobey more likable than a pride-filled Garfield... is how I'd address that opinion.

Realistically, though, I wasn't exactly sure why I found Tobey more likable than Garfield, but now that you've made
me think about it a bit... the above could indeed be a major reason.

my only question mark was why was the lizard so big? I'm far from a spidey expert but remember him being pretty much normal human size, until recent history that is.

You pretty much answered your own question.

I'm no Spidey-expert either, but I wouldn't even buy the MU scale Lizard figure because of his extreme size/scale.

And the Lizard figure I'm referring to... was the COMICBOOK VERSION put out a few years ago... not the recent movie figure.

Because no one wants to see Spidey fighting a Gekko......the bigger the opponent the more Kids want the toy.....

I'd like to be a bit less cynical on that point.

After all, they were yappin on and on about cross-breeding and the resulting blend of human/animal.

Having Lizard be that much larger than Spidey was a dramatic visual within the context of that theme
of the film in that when the two fought it looked a lot more like a "Lizard battling a Spider" than it would
have if Lizard ewere "normal" size.
