thats cool that you liked it im not knocking if you did but personally for me you have to show me alot more then that these days to get my attention and see that specific scene to me took out of the picture for a bit cause it was unrealistic and so over the top to me,actually I liked alot more the inter-action acting between the characters that was going on inside way more that was realistic and well written

see im not the only one although this guy is a bit harsher then I was I give it an 8 out of 10 but that's his opinion whoever he is?. Im done responding to this thread bottom line if you believe this is the best superhero film ever made in the genre thats your opinion and that's fine. I personally dont agree it was well made but for my specific taste it had many flaws.

Mike, I'm curious what you're favorite superhero movie is. Not as a slam or anything, I just want to know what the standard is that you've set.

My favorite is still Superman but Avengers really rocked my socks. I've seen it three times. There were one or two one liners I didn't care for like the Cap-sicle comment but otherwise I thought it was great fun.

          Possible Spoiler:

If they're introducing Thanos, will they be bringing Silver Surfer in to the story? Can they if he's part of the Fantastic Four? Or is that Paramount as well?

I finally saw it today and loved the hell out of it. It lived up to the hype, and my expectations, IMO.

I heard the aliens in this film were supposed to be the Skrulls, (it was mentioned in some threads here in this forum too), but since they're part of the FF camp they couldn't be called that. That means Surfer, Namor, and many FF characters are in limbo until the rights leave 20th Century Fox.

HAW! Yeah; Rob’s really picky about his movies. I don’t blame him. He’s a friend of mine, and back in the day the gang watched a LOT of movies.... so we’re all pretty picky.

                          >I honestly don't get how people can not like this film,

I’m not a big action fan, so I can understand. There’s lots of cool slam-bang action, but it’s all pretty superficial. One of the things that really, REALLY aggravates me about action films is how they gloss over the effects of property damage: the heroes can destroy with impunity and never accidentally kill anyone (unless the plot calls for it.... and even THEN it’s usually a frameup) or mess with insurance rates. (Think how much life would suck if the Hulk stepped on YOUR car....)

But that’s me. We all want from our entertainment the things we don’t get from our lives. To that end most folks want action, larger than life heroes, etc etc etc. I kinda want depth, surprise, new ideas.... all the stuff missing from my existence. Action’s fine, but I’ve seen buildings blow up before.... and hordes of aliens, and dudes throwing cars. (‘Course, I think three decades of Japanese cartoons have left me pretty jaded in the action department.)

I'm surprised that you say that, because (well, at least to me) all of that is in The Avengers. Plenty of depth, tons of surprises (mostly funny, one shocking/sad) and new ideas out the wahzoo (S.H.I.E.L.D. using weapons powered by the cube, the Chitauri's master is ******, etc). To me, The Avengers is a nice blend of witty dialogue, action, emotion, heart, and just a good time at the movies!

I think that's the key question when discussing stuff like this: the differences in perspective. Like I said, I've seen a LOT of stuff.... so I carry around in my noggin a huge collection of films to compare to. On top of that, I get more into ideas than absolutes: so special effects aren't important to me. Neither is live action vs cartoon. So that adds to the material that anything gets compared to. It also excludes me from a lot of the perspectives others share. The live vs cartoon one, for example. In most folks' heads, live action is ALWAYS better than a cartoon 'cos it's more "real." That's not a distinction that I make, so right there you're gonna get a differing of opinion.

A lot of our perspective is the result of past experience. So the way a person gauges a film is based on the idea of what's "right," which is formed from the templates for similar things they were exposed to during their formative periods. When I was a kid I used to read a lot of underground comics, stuff from Japan and Europe.... and accordingly my take on how violence works was always different from that of my friends who read superhero stuff and loved Arnie films. When I see a building explode my first thought is to wonder how many folks were trapped inside, because the stuff I grew up with made a point of showing things like that. Action move stuff feels really wrong to me because they gloss over that sort of thing for the sake of spectacle. Makes it feel shallow and inconsequential.

....even the surprises you've mentioned feel kinda small. They're the sort of thing that's a surprise 'cos the audience isn't privy to certain information.... but the kind of surprises and new ideas I like are ones that make you see something in a whole new way, or that hilight something you'd never noticed before.... stuff that expands your view of a given setting or character; not just stuff that adds to the mileu. (Like if the shady government agency DIDN'T ue the alien McGuffin to make superweapons. That'd be different.) One of the reasons I love the Damage Control comic so much is beacuse it was something nobody had ever done before; and yet it made absolutely perfect sense, given the Marvel universe. Same with the Marvels miniseries: it showed the setting through the eyes of the bystanders, and in doing so pointed out a lot of things that were always there, but you'd never thought of.

                              Don C.

I enjoyed The Avengers a lot...great comic book escapism.

But is it now one of my all time favorite movies?

                                No.

But don't get me wrong...I loved seeing all the big superheroes together...Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye...and Loki made a great villain (although you are right about the Transformers type creatures and weak alien soldiers).

My least favorite superhero of the bunch?

I'm going to get crucified here for saying this...but for some odd reason...I can't get in love with Chris Evans as Captain America...I mean...I used to hate Evans as much as Ryan Reynolds...but I guess he's growing on me a bit...still don't love him...perhaps over time I will start appreciating him...
