I really want to see Mandarin. The ethnic & political elements could make it difficult but also compelling.

And his various powers provide an extreme challenge for Tony, as well as extreme visuals that are perfect for a modern CGI super-hero film.

It could also be a cool way to introduce another tech element into the Marvel movie franchise with Black Panther and Wakanda. They are every bit as advanced as Stark. Along with T'Challa, they could bring Falcon into the fold since his wings are of Wakandan design. That would set him up for the forthcoming Cap 2. I'm sure none of that will happen, but it sounds good, at least to me anyway.

I really don't see how they can't go with mandarin. THey have this perfectly set up with the whole ten rings thing going on. What else could they be referring to?
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Neonpunch reported in April 2012 that "The Mandarin" will be the name of a group led by Ben Kingsley in Iron Man 3.
        More updates here as well:

Klick me Seymour!! (Yes, I do feel that I'm clever).

I liked IM2 overall, some of the scenes were great. I liked what they did with Whiplash (the version of the character I knew from the 80s comics was pretty silly to me) and Sam Rockwell's character was amusing - maybe a little over-the-top - but fun. I was happy to see Garry Shandling in there - that was fun too.

The movie wasn't paced well, and felt like things were not in the correct place to get the emotional impact it wanted. Terrence Howard and Downey had established such great chemistry in the first move that it was impossible to just accept another actor in the roll - even if it was Cheadle.

What's the Chinese box office like? It could be a consideration or even how many Chinese shareholders hold Disney stock?

Neither of those may be the right reason, but Mandarian is a cool villain and it's a shame he's not going to be used.

I don't know Mandarin well - to me his name is a little unfortunate in 2012. It reminds me of Robert Evens - in his memoir "The Kid Stays In The Picture" he keeps calling Jack Nicholson "Irish" and Roman Polanski "Polack". It doesn't offend me - it just doesn't seem like it belongs in this decade.

I was a big Iron Man fan as a kid - but from what I remember his rouge's gallery wasn't so hot.

That's great news! Shane Black's "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" was instrumental in Downey Jr.'s comeback. Even though Black's only really directed that one movie it's great to hear that a full on "action" guy is taking over. I keep thinking the one thing all these Marvel movies lack is really great action scenes.

Hmmmm. Methinks he looks a little too much like Jeff Bridges' Iron Monger in IM. Hopefully, they'll sleek the design down a bit and make it feel less like another IM retread. I would personally love to see them bring in some lesser know IM foes who are NOT armored ('course, Whiplash/Blacklash wasn't armored in the book) like The Unicorn, The Living Laser or Madame Masque...

I've heard nothing but good reviews for that movie, but have not seen it yet (I plan to soon though). Black also has a writing style that I feel is perfect for an Iron Man film (read this and tell me you disagree: Shane Black - Writing Style) and since he helped out with the previous Iron Man stories, I feel that he is a good choice to take over the directing duty (and writing the script with Drew Pierce).

And really? Which ones? Every Marvel movie I can think of has at least one, slam-bang action-packed scene that outdoes the others.

I actually think the Hammer, I mean Whiplash Drones look more like him then the Monger suit. And I would love to see Living Laser and Madame Masque in Iron Man movies, but to keep the realistic feeling that the MCU has done, they would have to have some changes made to their origin and, probably, costume.
