Yeah, one thing I really hope we finally get to see with this new Spidey reboot is just how formidable Spider-Man really is. I think people have forgotten he is seriously badass. One of my favorite Spidey moments is from the original Secret Wars where he effortlessly pummels the crap out of all the X-Men. Only Xavier is able to stop him by using a mental blast.

Of COURSE he's formidable... he's MARVEL'S equivalent to Superman
or Batman... the characters that sell the best are usually the most powerful.
What I got from emerald's post was the fanboy attitude being off---
which, while it's something to consider... a certain amount of deference
in small doses NEEDS to be there because of the age differences
and because of Spidey's overall positive attitude.
Spider-Man can hang with or even exceed the other Marvel heroes in
a FIGHT... but otherwise Spidey is a teen/younger dude in an older man's
world in my opinion.
BTW, I could be totally wrong about emerald's intent in his original post,
and if so... apologies in advance."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Come on now, folks, do any of you REALLY think Garfield has the 'nads to share screentime with the likes of Downey, Jr., Jackson, Evans, Ruffalo or Hemsworth? It would wind up coming off like what they're doing in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN on Disney---having Peter Parker/Spider-Man be like a little schoolgirl with a crush on the The Avengers.
Not how it's s'pposed to be at all.
Spidey is AT least equals with Cap, The Hulk and Thor in the legends department, so IF (and notice that's a mighty big "if") they're gonna introduce him into THE AVENGERS mythology, I think we need to get classic, older Spider-Man (preferably in the right suit) who's standing on equal ground with the big boys, not staring at them all googly-eyed....
Spidey is at least equal???
Please...Spidey is the biggest Marvel Comics star there is...his comic book sales alone have dwarfed stand-alone Cap, Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor COMBINED.
Just look at the individual flicks...Spider-Man has beaten all the individual Avengers stand-alone superhero flicks one-on-one...and that includes Iron Man...
Spider-Man 1/2/3: 2.45 billion box office worldwide
Iron Man 1/2, Thor, and Captain America: 2 billion box office worldwide
The two Hulk movies are of course the tie-breaker. But look how many stand-alone Avengers superhero movies took to overcome Spidey, lol.
http://boxofficemojo.com/genres/chart/?id=superhero.htm
ONLY as a group...can they beat Spider-Man...but NOT one-on-one.
The BIG FOUR in BOTH Marvel & DC:
Spider-Man and Hulk for Marvel...and Superman and Batman for DC.
Stop with the suit already...NONE of the film version superheroes have the same suits as in the comics...ask Cap, Thor, Hawkeye, etc...the only one who stayed true is Iron Man. And it took two Hulk tries...until they finally got him right in the Avengers.
Garfield is an excellent young actor...he's gonna be a household name after Spidey.
Look at Hemsworth...he was an unknown before Thor...now he's a star.
Same thing is gonna happen to Garfield.

Spider-Man vs. Captain America. Who would win and why?
There's no contest. Spider-Man would win simply because his superhuman traits outmatch Captain America's peaked-but-limited human abilities.
1) Strength - Spidey can lift 10-tons, compared to Cap's 800 lbs.
2) Speed, lightning reflexes, spider-sense - Cap can't even touch him. And his vibranium shield won't do any good when spidey snatches it with his web spinners.
Thank you...and good night!

Psst. Hector, I'm totally on board, but my geek OCD is compelling me to point out Cap's VIBRANIUM Shield, and Spidey's web SPINNER.

I'm sure Marvel is kicking themselves for letting that Spidey license go to Sony. Of course, the flip side to that is they wouldn't have put the same energy into the Avengers project. Just one of the greatest hero films of all time. And think about it like this too. Shortly, two of the top four all time domestic grosses will be from Marvel AND DC product. I think that is such a vindication for those of us who wondered in the 70's if our heroes would ever receive the treatment and dignity they so richly deserve. It's a great time to be a comics fan at the movies. This is truly a golden era unlike any other in the genre. There is much to be celebrated here.Comment

It would be interesting to see classic, older Spider Man as part of the Avengers. Being a science geek, he'd totally get into a discussion about radiation with Dr. Banner; he'd probably flirt outrageously with Natasha (who would be more amused than anything else; he could run rings around Thor and Cap due to his agility alone; the only one that could probably beat him down would be the Hulk, and Spidey would more than likely offer him something like a Twinkie or Hostess Cupcake to calm him down.
Fury would be, for lack of a better word, infuriated with his flip attitude, but secretly amused at the way he messes with the heads of the villains.
Spidey is a true agent of Chaos, unlike Loki, who wants organized Chaos, or something to that effect.
Loki would probably love him due to his smart mouth alone, but not really get a great many of the pop references.
He'd appreciate the insults, though.
Pepper would be like an older sister, and Tony would appreciate the sheer genius that went into making the web fluid, as well as the web shooters.
Heck, he'd probably improve on them!
But, it would be like herding cats to keep track of everyone. A director has to make sure that all actors have equal screen time, and make sure that the script isn't a convoluted mess.
Not an easy thing to do, but maybe Joss Whedon can pull it off.JediJaidaComment

My theater has 10 screens. It's been three weeks and we're still giving the Avengers three screens. It started with four. Imax, two in 3D, then a 2D. If they were to make Spider-Man and the Avengers (you know that's what they'd call it) it would probably have to open with five screens! Throw Wolverine in there too and theater employees everywhere might have a nervous breakdown...Comment
