Oh no! Both of these men were amazing. Tony D was a personal favorite, especially his Jonah Hex work. Just sad. Knowing that both men probably had super-hot Filipina wives only slightly lessens the sting of their passing.

One of my absolute FAVORITE Artists...

I know some of us sound like old broken records about the state of the comic industry and such...but...I don't have that sense of attachment to any of the newer artists as much as the (Iron) Gold & Silver Age ones.

I guess you can argue that it's because they were the Artists around during the period at which we were most influenced/impacted...but...I like to compare it more to the like of the whole 'Free Agent' period of Baseball.

Before the 'Free Agent' period, you knew who ALL the main players were for EVERY team cause they stayed with the team for years or their entire careers until the 'Free Agent' period came along and people started jumping Teams at the drop of a dime (or Million)...anyway...

Artists stuck around and had a much bigger impact on the characters and stories and had a vested interest in their success...I don't feel like modern day artists have that kind of loyalty...so why should I.

      ...but I digress...

Erie Chan was one of a very few bunch of artists that meant more to me then most...I sought out his work wherever he took himself...I am sadden to hear of his passing and I regret not having a chance to meet and tell him so.

RIP Ernie...your work mattered...to me at least

I've had that on my watch list for the better part of a year now...hoping that the price would drop a little. There are 2 oher painting/color sketches of Spectre I would love to get my hands on.

            Ernie Chan moment...

My fondest Sal Buscema/Ernie Chan Hulk image is from Hulk #219, the opening splash page.

When I was a kid, just about every weekend my family would go to Bradlees that was located in another town from where we lived. When we would come back home, we would always pass by this pharmacy that had a big beach towel with that Hulk-image on it displayed in the window. For some reason, this towel was in the window being displayed for years (or maybe it felt like it because I was so young). But God, I wanted that towel so badly and but never was able to get it.

Years later when I saw the image in Hulk #219, I almost pooped myself!! I couldn't believe it. At the time I was just learning that the images on Marvel products where taken from the comic panels...hey, I was young and learning.

Every time I saw or heard the name Ernie Chan I think of that blasted Hulk beach towel that eluded me.

R.I.P. Ernie, you will be missed...

            Amazing work...

It's very sad to keep losing the great artists we grew up with. I was a Conan junkie as a kid in the 70s. "Savage Sword Of Conan" was bought every month. I still have my "Claw The Unconquered" series which never took off. Awesome artist!
