It deserves every penny. It truly delivers on all counts. It reminds me of the original Star Wars. Everybody was talking about it and it raked in box-office green, just like The Avengers. This should launch Joss Whedon into god-like status now and Marvel/Disney should be kissing his *** and thanking him 24/7.

It would be great if it could actually take a shot at the all time record. Oh what that would do for our genre! Sweet vindication for those of us who sat through the 70's wondering if our heroes would ever get taken seriously.

I'm assuming you're talking about Titantic, Avatar and Empire Strikes Back.

                  Fun flick...like I said...might go for a second viewing.

But is The Avengers an all top ten movie of mine now?

Hardly. I can think of countless other movies that are/were more life changing for me...perhaps it's my old age, lol.

Great to see it succeed so successfully though...that's great for us comic book superhero geeks.

Actually, O:M, I believe the Hulk was referring to smashing Avatar, Titanic and The Dark Knight.

I would love to see THE AVENGERS get into that kind of rarified category and I certainly think it could beat THE DARK KNIGHT (not because of any TDK hate, just because of simple number), but with other big films opening on top of it almost every weekend from here out, I don't know that it will catch or surpass TITANIC or AVATAR...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Besides being a well written, well acted, well directed FUN film, Avengers also REALLY captures the feel of a super hero comic, better than any movie before it. The idea of the shared universe where all of these characters exist together, and the scope and destruction of the battle really feels like a super hero comic on the screen.

Oh, duh! I thought the pointy ears comment was about Yoda for some reason (that's a different nerd area I'm located in). Now it makes sense and is even funnier now.

And don't say that, we must have hope! I'm personally going to see it two more times with a friend, so that's my contribution. Plus, I went to the marathon with someone, so there's $80 as well. All together (when I actually spend the money), I'll be the highest contributer with $114. Try to beat that.

I'm sure someone will, considering 3-d and Imax prices are what's helping drive up the totals.

Trust me, O:M---I would to see a comic book movie as the biggest moneymaker of all time (without adjusting for inflation, of course, for those of you who keep track of that stuff), and I will definitely be adding to its' coffers a few more times in the next weeks. It is a great film and rightfully deserves to be on top!
