I would watch an all-day marathon of the big budget FF movies before ever watching the Corman film again. It's just bad guys. I've seen fan films that were tons better. It's a Z-movie, not B.

The Justice League TV pilot is horrible. I can't really think of any redeeming qualities of it.

I thought the Hoff Nick Fury movie was actually pretty decent. It captured the over-the-top bravado of the comics well. Hard to believe David Goyer went on to co-write the Nolan Bat-films!!!

There are worse comic book films than Superman IV (Steel, Catwoman to name two), but it is bad and one of the most disappointing to me. I was sophomore in college when it came out and I was really excited about taking my 6-year-old nephew to see it. My brother, who is 11 years older than me, took me to see Superman in 1978 when he was home from college on Christmas break, and it's still one of my favorite childhood memories.

Well, Superman IV was so crappy, even to a 6-year-old, that I don't think he ever had another thought about Superman since.

Superman Returns is not a bad movie. Taken on its own, it's pretty good. But, it is probably the most disappointing film I have ever seen because of what it could have been and wasn't.

Superman should not be droopy and mopey and sad. Superman should be two-fisted fun, action-oriented, hopeful and take advantage of every ounce of movie magic GGI can provide.

I'll get off my soapbox and continue to hope that Snyder gets it right.

I agree that The Cap TV Movie ..., was just Horrible.
Maybe I shouldn't include constantine in a list comparing to source material. I HATED the film but I haven't read the books. And if it is true to the sourceI assume I would dislike them as well.

as for Watchmen, I was among the few that didn't love the comics but I LOVED the movie. i feel a comic should tell a story with pictures and words, while i felt this was garrishly drawn and colored and words and bubbles were overplayed. the movie was able to take the story and comine it with compelling visuals.

I forgot about Steel! Easy to do.

Also, thought Watchmen was as good as it could be for a feature, I'd have preferred a 12 part mini series on HBO.

Comicbook stories as mini series would be a great idea and Watchmen would have worked well in that format (the movie was pretty good)

I found the Cormen FF interesting for what it was. (not good, just interesting) I cant really say that about the first big budget FF

I think The Spirit was a big disappointment in that showed FM couldnt handle a high position in a feature film and this may be as close as a comic creator gets.

Then that's really not applicable, your dislike of the source material doesn't make it the "worst comic adaptation" it just makes one you're not fond of. I've got plenty of those too.

X Men 3 is one of the hackiest made films I've endured in years but because it pays certain fan service, it has it's defenders who can argue some comic accuracy.

It's funny too that X-Men First Class was one of the best X-films, but took the most liberties with the comic book continuity. So you are right, I don't think proximity to the source material is always a good judge of how good an adaptation necessarily is.

For example, I think the recent Batman Year 1 animated adaptation would have been better if they had eased off a little on the original comic, given how awkward the pacing felt. Whereas Batman Begins/Dark Knight Rises, managed to find the heart of the Batman/Gordon relationship in Year 1, while leaving much of the storyline behind.

On that same token, I find it interesting how some of the comics that I did not enjoy on the page became excellent movies. "Batman Superman Public Enemies" annoyed me as a book but I've seen the movie more than once.

While I liked Red well enough as a comic, the addition of the three extra characters played by Morgan Freeman, Helen Miran and John Malkovich really elevated it above it's admittedly scant source material (three issues of sparse "decompressed" storytelling). And the dry humour of the film was no where in evidence either in the original story.

It's technically not a very good adaptation, but a very fun movie unto itself. The original story also wasn't built for a sequel, so the upcoming follow up film is already well into original ground.
