DC Comics Shuts Down Message Boards!

I am (or, rather, was) an infrequent poster at the DC boards and just found that they are...GONE!

I did some searching around and found out that this was done recently and all topics switched to twitter-type replies/ discussion. Lame.

It's a shame, really. I know there were some angry, angry people there, but I will really miss it.

They did that on the headline comments for Superherohype as well. The forums themselves are normal but that appears to be the new trend.

Wait...so SHH left their forums alone, but inserted a new twitter feed on the main webpage? That would have made more sense for DC, IMHO. Instead, the old DC message boards are gone forever. No way to even look at old posts!

Sounds like the diabolical Lex Luthor...or Dan DiDio. Neither ever have much success...
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

"Can't stand the heat, shut down the message boards" ... Is that how the saying goes?

There's always the CBR forums. THe GL one was great while it lasted.

Never found DC's message boards that interesting. Just a bunch of gripes. Rarely anything very constructive or fun. About the only time I checked them any more was on preview nights of the major cons.

The idea behind the tweeter feed forum is that it's free marketing, even if some of it is negative. Comments made on a message board just sit there for the most part among a regular audience. The twitter feed has a much better opportunity of reaching new people every day.

But, DC still could have kept the message board.

I've made some "angry" comments about their treatment of Captain Marvel. Those comments are still there.

If you go to the DC Comics homepage and scroll down to "characters" you can leave "facebook" style comments.

As someone who has been reading DC Comics for about 40 years and has stuck with the company through a lot of changes/reboots/revamps etc. (not all of which I have agreed with BTW) they must be doing something wrong this time around to lose a lot of my business.

Brand loyalty is something that should never be taken for granted IMO but to me it seems that DC no longer cares about that...instead they are chasing new readers that quite honestly I don't think really exist out there. In this day and age comic books are not first and foremost on the mind of the demographic DC desires...it's a sad but true state of the comic book industry and has been for a long time.

I'm not saying they need to appease the 40-something "grumpy close minded old farts" 100% but they could have had their cake and eat it too a number of different ways other than the path they chose. Instead they went balls to the wall to make a big splash (which they did) but I have to wonder if in say 5 or 10 years if all of this won't be thought through yet AGAIN when new management tries to push forth their agenda with these characters. But by then, it will be too late, as the old-timers like myself will have likely have moved on and the new readers they thought they were chasing never materialized to the extent they think they would.

My bottom line is as a long-time die-hard DC fan I love these characters too much to see them handled so haphazardly as of late. Yes, it really bothers me because I never imagined a world where I wouldn't read comic books, especially DC. Marvel I've always gone back and forth with but my DC reading has been pretty steady for the majority of my comic book days.

Well said Anthony. If you don't hold companies to a standard, they won't bother. Because, at the end of the day, they're just out to take your money. Some believe in value for their dollar. Others just blindly follow the label and ask for nothing in return.

For years I never questioned and I religiously bought even though I didn't always agree. It's only been recently that I started voting with my dollar. I realize that one person can't make the difference though...

But at this point in my life I have so many comic books anyway that I really don't need to keep adding to the stacks and long boxes and book shelves with what I consider inferior product. So I will defintely cherry-pick and re-read old stories that I truly enjoy.
