I think it's an attempt to introduce a texture so it doesn't look like cheap tights. Studios want these outfits to be stylized so they have a "glamor" to them that shouts... HOLLYWOOD.

I hate to say this, I really do, but I saw this pic yesterday, too, and thought he looked a little dorky----and not in a good way.....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Yeah----I like Honey Comb, too, but not on my Superman. I think I'd prefer Cap'n Crunch or maybe Cinnamon Toast Crunch for a change....!

I actually like the picture of Superman with the kid. While I want an action-oriented film with a true depiction of a Man of Steel kicking bad guy rump, to me Superman is the type of character who would take time for a photo like that with a kid.

As for the costume, I'd rather have the traditional suit, but that's just not going to happen. I like the emblem. I think the suit would look better if the blue were broken up in some way, but it's not horrible to me. From the photo, the muscles look like they are Cavil's for the most part and not just rubber armor molded to look like muscles as with Keaton's Batman.

I guess what I'm saying is that it could be worse.

It's the fault of Roots, supplier of Canadian Olympic uniforms.

I see the potential for a commercial product tie in here...

Just replace MJ with Lois. Instant 70's era detergent commercial.

One of the better moments in Superman III is when he comes out of the photo booth and rips off the picture of himself that doesn't show him changing from Clark to Supes, and gives it to the kid. Nice character bit there.

I think Cavill looks fine and the role and the suit is okay. I'm not going to boycott it or anything based on this.
