There does seem to be a subtext of legacy and disciples in this particular film.

wouldn't it be interesting if Nolan was actually setting up Third Rock to take over as the franchise headliner in subsequent films once Bale bails after this one.

I liked Levitt also in Inception and was thinking the same thing when I saw that 2 years ago he would make a good Riddler .But Nolan and David S. Goyer are no dummies.he will be used in a excellent oppurtunity in Tha Dark knight Rises!

Im actually now glad The Riddler, nor Penguin was not a villain .Nolans films are not just Superhero films thats why they work they are gangster/cop films, like Michael Mann Films that happend to have Comic characters in them. And I also really believe Nolan has never gone after the Geeks approval of these films .he has been reaching for a wider audiance since the first in 2005 thats why they work

not to rant also people are always complaining about the Bat Suit in Nolans Batman Films which cracks me up! these films are not about that either you could have Bale in Freakin Diaper and he would make it work cause the words on the page are that strong.the Foundation of a great film the Script first and fourmost! thats why I keep coming back for more

Tying Bane into Ra's goes back to the Legacy cross-over in the 90s, and was mostly Chuck Dixon's idea. Nolan and co. are great at cherry-picking elements for over the years of Batman history and tying them together in an even more satisfying bow. Much in the way Bruce Timm and co. did with BTAS.

I love Nolans version of the Batman films. They are not corny or to silly(Batman Forever-Batman and Robin) These have a great action, heart, and most importantly a good story behind them!

I'm pretty much with you, except thinking Bruce Wayne was in love with Maggie Gyllenhaal was too tough to swallow. Nolan could have hired Rhea Perlman--at least she's got personality. I'm looking forward to this, however, and am a bit bummed it's the last one.

Bane's been great as a member of the Secret Six the past few years. I was never really into the character prior.

                    Levitt?

I have a feeling that Levitt might be a Nightwing character at the very end of the film. Seems to fit Nolan's kind of real world theme. Bruce Wayne has to know that Batman must continue after this movie because evil always rises and Bruce must know he can only last so long so he needs someone to take his place. Levit is shown as a cop but he's getting too much attention and is too big an actor just for a small role. He'd be great as Nightwing too. Hope to see it. Looks like they are drawing some stuff perhaps for Bane from KGBeast too. I'm looking forward to this movie more now than from the first trailer. Still not quite sure I'm on board with the Bruce Wayne and Alfred prison thing but we will see. I have always really enjoyed the past two films except for the endings. Seems like just a little let down compared to the rest of the film and how they were all built up so well until the end. The water evaporator was a bit far fetched too in Begins.

The filmmakers also cite 'The Dark Knight Returns' (an aged Batman operates in a future Gotham), 'Knightfall' (Bane pushes Batman physically and mentally, causing him to burn out) and 'No Man's Land' (Gotham descends into gangland territory) as major influences on the film.

While I'd be the first to agree that Maggie Gyllenhaal is not particularly beautiful...I still find her somewhat sexy...plus she's a great actress...much superior to Katie Holmes for example.

Surface looks aside, Bruce being in love with the Rachel character makes sense. Since his obsession wouldn't allow him the time for romance, he fixated on a childhood crush. Plus her career goals were very close to his own.

I definitely believed Gyllenhall in the role more than Holmes. I think a significant chunk of DK would have fallen apart if Holmes delivered those legalese lines.

I hope it turns out that Levitt will be playing both Rob and Don through the magic of special effects.
