As for when re-boots are needed, I think it's when a series has kind of gone down in flames like after Batman and Robin or a director has an entirely new vision.
Batman Begins set a whole new tone for the series that was needed, in my opinion. It also benefited that Burton's 1989 Batman film didn't give a full origin of the character.
I think Warner's could recast Batman after Nolan's final film but not necessarily reboot the series, unless Nolan's finale ends with Batman dying, which I believe would be out of the question.
I thought I had read the Spider-Man film was redoing his origin. If so, I would think Warners would watch how well fans respond to a rebooted origin so quickly. If it does monster business I'd guess they might go the same direction.
Also, if I was Warner's I'd want to see what type of vision the new director had for the character and story and whether he wanted to start over or if he had ideas that could play off Nolan's films or had rather just do a film with an already established character.
While I hope Man of Steel doesn't contain a full re-telling of Superman's origin like the original film, I am glad that it's being distanced from the Reeve films and Routh's.
I'm looking forward to seeing something new.Comment

Tis a lively debate we have here laddie. Never personal. This is only the second protracted debate we have had.

Just feel you jump to the wrong conclusions sometimes. Hate to see credit taken away from a good actor. I have to back up my statements. Also the Austin Powers portion of my reply was just me messing with you. I know AP is satirizing James Bond, mostly.
I thought we were discussing Reboots.
But you do have to admit that the general "reboot" trend of the Bonds throughout their cinematic history s that the mst popular ones inevitably tumble over if not onto the razor's edge of self-parody (we agree with Moore) if not relying too heavily on the formula at the expense of the character. This is despite the fact that those are exactly the ones that are most popular with the mass crowds, and conversely, diametrically opposite Ian fleming's original prose Bond, which is what I would like to see more of. But with the exception of Casino Royale, this never seems very popular at the Box Office.
Iin Pierce Brosnan's case, I do agree that he's a good actor, but his most memorable roles to me always sway towards the comedic. The man has brilliantly funny timing and deadpan... Including Remington Steele. Give me more of the M and Bond dynamic at the beginning of Die Another day, and you see what potential Dench and Brosnan could have had over the course of four or five movies. You can also see why they didn't "reboot" entirely with Dench's role as M still firmly entrenched, but much more deeper and complex with Craig's bond.Comment
