The Godzilla clan did tonight what we usually do on Fridays. We went for pizza and after we had ordered, we walked next door to shop at our comic store while our pies baked. My boys, 7 and 5, were dissappinted to discover that the new issue of Super Dinosaur won't be out until next week. But finding a couple of Art's Super-Pets books quickly made them forget. With new reading material in hand, we enjoyed a great dinner and then came home to watch Cartoon Network and Batman.
We have watched Brave and Bold as a family every Friday night it's been on since the very first episode. It's been the prefect blend of action, comedy, and fun, especially for my kids who were very little when the show started. Tonight's episode was excellent. As usual, the comedy was spot on and the injokes for us nerds were great. But most of all, it seemed to be a real love letter to families like ours who sit and watch the show together each week. That really caught me off guard. Watching my kids eat up Gorilla Grodd turning people into bananas with his ray guy and having the show acknowledge that joy and our sharing of the experience was very heart felt.
Some may feel it lame, but it honestly brought tears to my eyes. I have loved being able to share this version fo Batman with my kids.
So cheers to Batman Brave and the Bold. A show that demonstrated that superheroes can be fun as well as serious. A show that men, women, boys and girls, moms and dads could enjoy. You will be missed in my house.
We will definately watch the Christmas episode again this year.
