    DC Old Universe Deathrattle

It's been interesting reading assorted DC books since the announcement of the relaunch.

While I certainly haven't read them all, much of the art was spotty, with multiple pencilers working on several of the books. As for the stories, I don't know if I'm bringing my attitude to the assessment, but many of them just petered our or were just place holders until September.

JSA, Batman and Justice League were atrocious.

I enjoyed GL Emerald Warrior's final three issues, but they were basically fill-ins. Green Lantern Corps was a bit better. GL War Aftermath was a waste as was Brightest Day/Swamp Thing Aftermath.

I've never really liked Doomsday as a character/villain so Action Comics didn't do a lot for me until the last issue, which I rather enjoyed, but from issue 900 to the final, the story just dragged.

The good news, at least IMO, was that Detective Comics was excellent. Scott Snyder is the best Batman writer in forever. Loved what he did with Commissioner Gordon's son, James. Very chilling. Greatly looking forward to what he does with Bruce in the cape and cowl in the relaunched Batman.

While I couldn't recommend the entire "Grounded" arc in Superman, the final two issues 413 and 414 really hit the spot for me and were a nice way of saying goodbye to this version of the character. Really felt like I was reading a Superman comic for the first time in a long time.

The Flashpoint books had their hits and misses, but I really think the concept was better than the execution, particularly in the tie-in miniseri. The art on most of the them seemed very unpolished and amateurish. The main Flashpoint mini series was hit and miss with me. The art was fine, but the ending became anticlimactic with the announcement of the relaunch.

As for the Justice League relaunch first issue, it was only OK. The art was nice and some of the character pieces were funny, but the whole thing was a bit plodding to me.

Hopefully, the relaunched books will be better. Particularly interested in what Morrison and Perez do with Superman. I'm certain Snyder's Batman and Swamp Thing titles will be good. I generally like Jurgens' stuff so I'll try JLI. All the GL books will be bought. I read yesterday that Detective is set 5 years in the past like Action, but I don't have a ton of faith in Daniel. Aquaman with Johns and Reis will likely be the hit of the line and some of the so-called "Dark" books could be interesting to me or a real turnoff.

The last issue of Batgirl I found very moving. 9/10 on that one.
Gotham Sirens had a rather abrupt ending.

Birds of Prey had what I call the Scooby Doo ending. Not the "reveal of the monster to be old man Withers" ending. I mean the "everyone laughs at a stupid joke" ending. Which I thought was kind of cool.

I liked the Batman final issue. I didn't like how it had multiple pencilers. I did like the story and how it was a summary of Batman's life as told through Damian's pov. Kinda cool.

Finch's Dark Knight felt like a waste of time after all that waiting around for issues etc.

I also really enjoyed the last issue of Detective. Very well done and a great story all around.

What am I looking forward to with the new 52:
    Batgirl
    Green Arrow (Jurgan's and Perez!!)
    Nightwing
    Catwoman
    Batman (Greg Capullo!)
Green Lantern (because I think Sinestro is the cats pajamas)
Aquaman (because he looks so cool)

    Thats...pretty much it.

I have to admit, I experienced some fanboy rage at the Bait and Switch with Perez on pencils for the first half issue of Secret Seven.

I enjoyed the past year of Action Comics starring Lex Luthor, and was kind of bummed that the title had to go out on yet another *yawn* Doomsday story.

Booster certainly felt like it wasn't really of consequence to Flashpoint despite the marketing saying otherwise (Again with Doomsday?). Ditto Kid Flash.

I have to admit, that the five page preview of JLI feels like a bit of a let down to me... between the guild up of the Generation Lost series and the return of Giffen and co for one issue last week, seeing the JLI assemble for "the first time" didn't do it for me since I wanted to see them springboard off of Generation Lost. But I guess JLI isn't meant for an old school fanman such as I, so here's hoping that it does find a new audience. Booster fans will be happy to know that he's front and centre as the leader of the new JLI.

I just got a little goodie in the mail tonight that will make me feel better about these BS changes. Byrne's Man of Steel TPB will hit the spot just fine. That's my favorite version of Supes aside from Gary Frank's recent work. I will not be participating in this new universe.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Love Byrne's re-do. I actually had a letter printed in his Superman No. 1 about the first issue of the Man of Steel mini series. That's my comic-book claim to fame.

Hoping I will like Morrison's version as much, but I kind of doubt I will.
