It's been interesting reading assorted DC books since the announcement of the relaunch.
While I certainly haven't read them all, much of the art was spotty, with multiple pencilers working on several of the books. As for the stories, I don't know if I'm bringing my attitude to the assessment, but many of them just petered our or were just place holders until September.
JSA, Batman and Justice League were atrocious.
I enjoyed GL Emerald Warrior's final three issues, but they were basically fill-ins. Green Lantern Corps was a bit better. GL War Aftermath was a waste as was Brightest Day/Swamp Thing Aftermath.
I've never really liked Doomsday as a character/villain so Action Comics didn't do a lot for me until the last issue, which I rather enjoyed, but from issue 900 to the final, the story just dragged.
The good news, at least IMO, was that Detective Comics was excellent. Scott Snyder is the best Batman writer in forever. Loved what he did with Commissioner Gordon's son, James. Very chilling. Greatly looking forward to what he does with Bruce in the cape and cowl in the relaunched Batman.
While I couldn't recommend the entire "Grounded" arc in Superman, the final two issues 413 and 414 really hit the spot for me and were a nice way of saying goodbye to this version of the character. Really felt like I was reading a Superman comic for the first time in a long time.
The Flashpoint books had their hits and misses, but I really think the concept was better than the execution, particularly in the tie-in miniseri. The art on most of the them seemed very unpolished and amateurish. The main Flashpoint mini series was hit and miss with me. The art was fine, but the ending became anticlimactic with the announcement of the relaunch.
As for the Justice League relaunch first issue, it was only OK. The art was nice and some of the character pieces were funny, but the whole thing was a bit plodding to me.
Hopefully, the relaunched books will be better. Particularly interested in what Morrison and Perez do with Superman. I'm certain Snyder's Batman and Swamp Thing titles will be good. I generally like Jurgens' stuff so I'll try JLI. All the GL books will be bought. I read yesterday that Detective is set 5 years in the past like Action, but I don't have a ton of faith in Daniel. Aquaman with Johns and Reis will likely be the hit of the line and some of the so-called "Dark" books could be interesting to me or a real turnoff.
