What makes you so sure that this new Superman costume is based on DC's new re-boot? This Superman movie has been in the works for awhile and Chris Nolan was put in charge of bringing it to production(WB dubbed him the Godfather). Nolan's relationship with Warner Brothers has been a good one, they trust him and pretty much let him do what ever he wants to do without creative interference.

Because DC has final say over product re-branding, not Nolan. And there is no coincidence that the two look similar for that reason. This was all decided upon before either the movie or the comics were made. Businesses do plan ahead before they show their hand, Bat. And while Nolan might have a good run with Batman, he certainly doesn't have enough clout to just own the company direction for that character in all venues. Having input for a movie project because of the success of Dark Knight is understandable. But don't mistaken that for more than what it is. One under performing film and he's yesterday's news again.Comment

I agree with you that these decisions are made at a business level. But at the end of the day, Warner Brothers makes blockbuster movies. Movies that make a lot more money than comics do... whether we like that fact or not. So it doesn't seem crazy to me that these character designs have more to do with what Hollywood types think would work well on the big screen. Everything else (including the comics themselves) is secondary.Last edited by MIB41; Sep 2, '11, 1:52 PM.Comment

Well, Nolan gave Batman a rubber/armored suit in Batman Begins long before DC's planed "re-boot"...and now Nolan's producing Superman, and Superman is wearing a rubber Alien looking suit. There's no real proof that the Comics are dictating to the Movies...only theory.sigpicComment

This movie is going to cost 200 million plus, waaaaaaay more than DC Comics can make in several years through publishing. WB is pulling all the puppet strings here. I sincerely doubt this reboot/relaunch was willingly submitted to by DC editorial. It was likely more like an ultimatum. Make these books more like the films or we'll step in. DC comics is a tiny percentage of the overall business for WB. I can't see them having the power to influence the movie marketing machine/monster.
Plus, consider that the original release date was for next Christmas, just slightly more than twelve issues into the revival. It got pushed back to Summer 2013, so there are a lot of puzzle pieces up in the air at this point.
I'm kinda starting to like the suit a little. If we get a great movie by dealing with the costume as-is, then fine, let's get to it.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.Comment

"Wow... a Superman suit from far away, seen for a few seconds, that looks much like Reeves'.""No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Since this film has got Ma and Pa El and Kent, its bound to have several origin elements. Perhaps he eventually drops his Kryptonian suit and adopts the standard suit in the end to honor his adoptive homeworld.
How big of a roar would that bring about from the theater audience?
If not a humorous jab at brief-wearing heroes, ... I don't think it'd make a big difference to the typical movie goer."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

I think the costume's biggest flaw isn't so much that it looks inherently bad, but rather than reminding us of how Superman's from an alien culture (which is what I suppose they're going for), it will just date the film to this time period. You can watch superhero films--or even comic books, for that matter (Liefeld's creations are excellent examples)--and pretty much tell when they were made based on the costumes' designs.Last edited by torgospizza; Sep 2, '11, 11:03 PM.Comment
