I've pondered the problem with tweeking the costume as they have. And I have finally reached a rationale that is the basis for my concern. The film industry is currently flooded with superhero films. Now for us, that is a dream come true. We're getting films made that most of us never thought we would see in our lifetime. But there are two opposing forces coming from either side that could bring all this to an end. The first is the studios. When they invest big money, they want big results. Period. Their not getting that with this current flood of films. Sure their making some money, but most of these films are needing overseas help to reach that tally. So the days of a superhero film being an "event" are dwindling. The second is the general public. They've digested alot of "hero" product in the past couple of years and one thing is quite apparent - Alot of these heroes don't look like their comic counterparts. What's worse, their all starting to look like they get their costumes from the Rubbermaid store.

Spiderman's new look is...rubber. Cap's new look for the Avengers...rubber. Thor's outfit - rubber. Green Lantern - rubber. And of course, Batman started the craze. But in my eyes he sort of owns that corner of the market since the Keaton-era Batman opened the door for this industry. Everyone has simply copied that look since.

So now we have Superman who was immortalized by Christopher Reeves in '78 with nothing more than form fitting tights. THAT is what people like. THAT is what people identify with Superman. His costume is not really open to interpretation. The community WANTS THAT suit. When they look into the sky, they don't want to say, "It's bird! It's a plane! Oh it's a basketball..." They want the big "S" surrounded by bright blue, red, and yellow. Without it, he becomes...well...just another generic hero in a rubber outfit. In stripping away his iconic outfit, they are taking away a big part of his appeal. And so, from the public's perspective, he blends in with everyone else. Right now he looks like off spring from the X-men and Green Lantern. That's not Superman. And I bet it will reflect in the final box office tally.

Really, Hector, really??? MORE picking on poor Green Lantern?!? At least his suit was NOT rubber, it was CGI and, whether you've seen the movie or not, you gotta give cred to the people repsonsible for CGI-ing that suit. They kept it consistent and animated during the entirety of the movie. I mean, I still don't LOVE the GL movie uniform like I LOVE the GL comics uniform (still needs the white gloves to offset it), but it has grown on me a lot and I can understand now why it looks like what it looks like, because the uniforms sort of adapt themselves to the musculature and skin striations of the lifeform wearing them...

By the way, be careful, Hector, or MIB will sic the dogs on ya again!!!

True, but it’s a movie about a guy from another planet where everyone looks just like us humans, except ‘cos our sun is a different colour they’re bulletproof, shoot lasers and for some reason can defy gravity. He also doesn’t starve to death in the rocket that sent him to Earth, or hit space debris, or be noticed by anyone except a couple out for a drive, who adopt him, (“finders keepers”) and somehow keep his extraterrestrial physiology secret for 30 years, at which point he moves to the big city fighting evil alien robots, supersmart chromedomes, and natural disasters, all while using a pair of specs to keep his identity secret from his best friends, TWO of which are SUPPOSEDLY ace reporters.

Yeah.... red undies is just WAY too out there....

In looking at that bigger, better pic of Supes new duds, I just don't dig them at all. They don't say Superman to me. They don't say to me "This is the most powerful being on planet who can pretty much save us from anything (as long as there's no Kryptonite or magic involved).

And, yeah, the lack of red trunks DOES really enhance Kal-El's package. It appears that Kryptonians are apparently very well---supplied.

The colors I could love with if they didn't appear so----dirty. It's like this is "grunge" Superman, and I don't dig that at all. I can, however, see marketing aspects out the ying-yang for this suit, which is what, I'm sure, sold it to the execs at Warner Bros., character integrity be damned....

Totally agree....I always hated that ma Kent sewed it from his baby blankets....that was always lame especially when they would say that the costume was super...How the **** did ma sew it so freeking lame.

All I see is a more Kryptonian look and if it means getting away a bit from all the other on screen Supermans especially Chris Reeve I'm all for it....

I can see all the JLAer's goofing him.....Hey Batman's armor cost him a million...supes man your suit looks like your Mom sewed it.....

I don't know but I see a lot of Kryptonian PP envy supes will have them lining around the block Lois who?.....
