The missing parts of the classic costume really hurt the design, especially when you see him wandering about like that.

One week would have made a BIG difference...coming out 4th of July weekend would have sent it over the top and possibly given it more momentum.

I know contractually they were obligated to put out Transformers 3...but isn't that almost available on DVD yet?!?!

Doc Mego should love this suit. Me, I'm a traditionalist: I can tolerate Aquaman losing his trunks (He's "C" list & it actually streamlines the character).

But Batman & Superman should be left alone IMO.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - Box Office Mojo

            So go figure...
To be fair, though, Superman Returns cost almost twice as much to make. $270MM vs $140MM for Cap.

The costume sucks, plain and simple! No trunks. cape to long, no red belt and no yellow S on the back of the cape. Why do they have to make this suit look like the new revamp? Even kids today know he has red shorts and a yellow S on the back. Just stupid!

Yeah, "suffered" was too strong a word. Cap was a hit. It's made back it's budget and is still going, with DVD sales yet to come. I'm sure Marvel/Paramount is pleased. BUT I think it would have done better had it been released first.

Plus, without the trunks what sense does it make to have his boots outside his pants?

Thankfully for me these pics make it much easier for me to keep my pledge / vow of not bothering with another Superman flick unless it was a Sandy Collora superman flick.

                        I mentioned that...lol.

However...it all averages out with 2006 money versus 2011 money...

I'll reserve judgment until I see some video clips, but right now everything looks too bulky and agree with Hector, a couple of yards need to come off of that cape.
                            It's all good!

                              Hmmmm....

                              Supermansunderpantsgate Begins - Topless Robot

I think "Supermansunderpantsgate" should be THE buzzword of 2011.

The article's pretty good, and I gotta agree with:

                              >I'm more concerned about the idea that the movie will be about another DC hero moping around for 105 minutes before deciding to do something superheroic in the last act. Would I prefer Superman wear his underwear outside his tights? Yes. But if I had to choose to worry about that or the possibility of Man of Steel being yet another origin story for the world's best known superhero, I'm worrying about the latter.

Or as another site put it:

                              >will have Julia Ormond joining Russell Crowe as Supermans parents on Krypton before it explodes. Because this will tell the Superman origin story. Yet again. Otherwise no one would know what was going on. “There’s a new director now, so naturally I assumed the character would be completely different,” audiences will no doubt say to one another. “By showing me what I already know and saw in two other movies, I’m now reassured that Superman is still exactly the same as always. And it was great. I enjoy watching the same story over and over and over again. I’m like a ******* toddler.”

                              Don C.

Since we truly don't know what direction the movie is taking, all we have to go by are the visuals, and those are not looking good to me. By not maintaining a classic and familiar look, they are opening up the rest of the film for interpretation. Will he have a Jim-Bob country accent? Does he listen to Jay-Z? Is he confused on his purpose in the world? Will he growl all of his lines?

IMO, by not sticking with the classic and time-tested look, the film makers are subconsciously admitting they cannot successfully make a film with the character we all know and grew up with.

Yeah, a bunch of us are complaining about some stupid trunks, I know. However, on the flip side, someone at WB thought a codpiece would be better, so they've given those same trunks more than a few thoughts as well. Maybe some of that mental energy should be used on a script that uses a new villain instead of revisiting Zod, who's previous portrayal can't be topped.

Since apparently it takes 2.5 years to make this movie, they have a lot of time to tinker with stuff. I sincerely want this to be the success it needs to be. It's just not starting out looking too good. Of course, I thought Keaton as Batman was a joke till I saw it. I still think he's the best of the bunch.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
