Which incarnation of The Defenders is your favourite?
In the Southeast Pacific, lies the sunken city of R'Leyh. There lies C'thulhu waits to return to our world with the other Great Old Ones. A hideous creature of enormous size and alien power, it waits for it's time to return patiently. For it has all the time in the world while it waits for the stars.
I really liked the era of rotating membership; where they had a new teammate almost every issue. (Right around the time Val went to college.) Good stuff.
I think the BOC storyline was my fave. ("The Revenge of Vera Gemini.") Weird idea.
>See now I personally thought that run was forced...seemed like it was just to cash in on the popularity of the X-Men.
I won't disagree with you; at the time EVERY comic was the X-Men, but I think in their desperation to put some distance between the Defenders and every other superhero team they really came up with some good stuff. The supernatural elements were one of 'em; as were the stories focussing on the NON-superhero parts of the character's lives. AND the fact that not all of it involved the characters sitting around whining. (Which the other teams, ESPECIALLY the X-Men, seemed to do a lot!)

You are probably right, although more-so when they morphed into X-Factor. That was pretty much the blatant cash-grab. Then they figure out that it's much more lucrative to slap "X-Men" on a half dozen books rather than just have Uncanny X-Men and a handful of mutant team books with names like "New Mutants".
I think the saving grace of the Dematties/Badger run is the use of some pretty out-there characters like Cloud and Gargoyle who were pretty unique as well. I wonder where those characters are now?

"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
I love the Giant Siza Annual they had about 30 years ago with Doc Strange, Hulk, Namor (in blue outfit), Valkyrie, Nighthawk and special guest Daredevil.
Also the lineup up Doc, Hulk, Nighthawk and Luke Cage that fought the Wrecking Crew in issues 16-18.
