Lester's Superman II. Like others I would have liked to see what Donner would have done if he would have finished the film. Doubt he would have turned back time twice.

There are things about the Donner cut I like better, but as others have stated, it's basically unfinished and unpolished.

There are aspects of the first 3 Superman films I really love, but the things I don't like about them seem bigger and worse to me every time I watch them. it was a whole lot more watching them as a kid and just going with them and accepting the films for what they were.

The "General, would you care to step outside?" line and scene is much cooler than "General, haven't you ever heard of freedom of the press?" line and scene.

      There's my answer...

Yep, that's my favorite line in Superman II. It really killed the Donner version for me by not having it in there.

BTW, there is a great hybrid fan edit by a guy that goes by the name ADigitalMan. He took the best of both versions. Worth looking for.

Lester. The Donner cut suffers from that damned “forbidden fruit” crap that plagues tons of unreleased stuff; it’s always supposed to be better because “suits” never wanted you to see that, but honesty it rarely if ever is the case.

Donner, Lester fimed half a movie to be even given full Credit a slap in the face to Donner. He should have been co-credited

also the turning the world back was intended for Superman 2 but because the salkinds were pressuring Donner to finish the first one for a Christmas 78 release Donner had to take and add that ending to the first movie. He was going to come back and fix two but never got a chance to.

If you study the look of the film you can see clearly what Donner did and what Lester did....two completely different styles and it's hilarious when it was put together

Margot kidder had already aged when she re-filmed her scenes in the Daily planet when Zod comes for the show down. One minute kidder has her flat hairstyle in one scene and in another she has her hair fluffed up. Also Gene hackman refused to come back and work on the movie so body doubles and voice actors were used to finish his parts.....

Had Donner stayed on we would have never had the Lester version of Superman 3

Most of S3 was pretty bad. The Clark vs evil Sups battle was cool though.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I prefer the Donner cut mostly because of the Jor El scenes. I mean the glare he gives Lois for eavesdropping is awesome.

Yes, I like the "General would you care to step outside" line much better, but I'd rather lose it and have the Kryptonian Villains be scary than goofy.

It's bad enough Luthor is mostly played as the Otis in SII, I mean this is a guy that was going to KILL MILLIONS for real estate. Now he's comic relief?

I'm glad the General kills that kid. The kid had it coming. Should have just kneeled.

Now, I can nitpick all the Superman movies all day long. I mean, "Can you read my mind"? Seriously? SERIOUSLY? How about "Kidder, SHUT THE HECK UP YOU'RE RUINING THE BEST PART OF THE MOVIE!" I'd rather listen to the score during the flight scene.

My quest one day is to re-edit Superman I & II into one film and take the suck out of it. (And this coming from someone that DOWNRIGHT LOVES these movies... I LOVE THEM... I own props, storyboards, production art, etc)

As for Superman III, I like to view it through the eyes of what it was supposed to be as opposed to what it became.

It was to be a Luthor/Brainiac team up, with Mxyzptlk added for fun.

Same as Superman IV, when Nuclear Man is viewed as what he was meant to be, Bizarro, it makes it easier to watch.

She's wearing a wig. And dentures.

It's a fun game to play when watching official release version... play WIG or NO WIG.

You can see the change best during the Perry's Office scene when she returns from the Fortress.

Kidder was very pretty when she was younger even when she did Superman and the amityville horror she still looked good......but by Superman 2 and 3 she got a bit rough looking.....
