I don't want to be the stereotypical whiny and demanding fanboy, but this stuff is just so terrible that I have a very difficult time believing it will last a year. Maybe I'm just old and/or not the target market, but this reboot just seems completely tone deaf.

Frankly, I wouldn't be too surprised if this leads to DC Comics periodical line being completely shuttered.

OR..just the paper side. They could can claim sales are now low/niche enough to support digital only.

I think you’re right, but I kinda have my doubts that it’s gonna tank all that bad. A lot of oldster fans are gonna pick these books up; maybe to confirm their worse fears, maybe out of inertia, maybe ‘cos they’ve got a full set since 1971 and don’t want to stop the run.... but it’s not gonna scare them away. Not the ones that toughed it through the 90's, anyhoo.

....it’s not gonna make them HAPPY; but if they’ve already sat through “Ultimate Crisis of Infinite Secret Blackest Infinity Civil Zombie Darkest Final Brand New Wars” THIS won’t phase them. I still think if this sort of thing didn’t work.... to some degree.... they wouldn’t keep doing them every year for what, the last 10 years?

Maybe there’s a cadre of secret speculators picking them up, thinking each is gonna be an important note in comic history? Maybe all the flash and panache hooks the casual reader? I don’t know, since everyone I’ve seen with an opinion HATES the annual non-events, but they still persist....

I mentioned in another thread how I marvel at the number of genres that were INSANELY prolific back in the day, but are dead now. I also believe that EVERYTHING is cyclical.... so maybe we’re seeing the resurgence of the oddly popular hillbilly genre? (That DOES kinda look like a John Deere cap Speedy’s wearin’....)

I've been wanting Superman to get back to his "New Deal" roots for a looooong time. Morrison understands the character and is always interesting. Morales is just fantastic and has a great pulp vibe to his work.
Action is the only DCnU title that I'm interested in.

Same here. I have zero interest in seeing Superman fighting "greedy" souless banks or fighting for healthcare. I just want to see him beat the crap out of supervillains.

The New York Post has published an article about the relaunch of the DC Universe of comic books, which includes a never-before-seen image of Superman, which is supposedly an alternate cover for "Action Comics #1". The article also includes new quotes from writer Grant Morrison on the relaunch...

While most of the titles, including "Batman" and "Green Lantern," will showcase DC's iconic heroes when they're well into their careers, "Action Comics" shows the earliest adventures of Superman, who's initially a bluejeans-and-T-shirt-wearing crimefighter with a small red cape.

"We felt it was time for the big adventures of a 21st-century Paul Bunyan who fights for the weak and downtrodden against bullies of all kinds, from robot invaders and crime lords to corrupt city officials," said Morrison, a former "X-Men" writer.

"The new look reflects his status as a street-level defender of the ordinary man and woman."

I refuse to buy in to any of this crap...especially after the great job DC just had Geoff Johns & Gary Frank do on Superman:Secret Origin...now they're going and saying ignore all of that for Morrison to get his jollies?

I like Morrison better when he was on the fringe of the DCU with titles like Animal Man or Doom Patrol not smack dab in the middle of DCU continuity....

Translated: “We really need to add Superboy to the mix, mostly ‘cos ‘Smallville’ was so popular.... but we sorta remember folks hated him in the 90's so we’re gonna split the difference. Plus; it’s another Superman book, and he’s one of our four characters that actually sells.”

Again splitting the difference? “He’s totally down to Earth and relatable, with bigger than life stories.”

“Street level” usually translates to “dark and gritty;” but I haven’t seen any indication of that.

I don't hate the idea of Superman going back to his roots, I like the golden age stories where Superman is kind of a "local jerk vigilante/buddinsky" type.

It's just that l'il cape robs him of all credibility! It's like he's nine or something.

No longer really Clark Kent and more Kryptonian than human in heritage.

Makes no sense. His up bringing as Clark is what made him "human" and care about people in the first place. That stupid little cape is a perfect show piece for what a mess this is.

My worry is the new Sups is going to end up being the goth Sups that was found locked up in a lab Flashpoint. That does explain the more alien than Clark for the new Superman.
