BIG fan of Gene Colan..his work on Iron Man and Daredevil was some of my first exposure to those characters. And his Tomb of Dracula art was phenomenal! He also had great runs on Dr. Strange as well as Batman and Night Force over at DC.Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

God Speed Mr. Colan. You were a legend.Comment

Sorry to hear it. At least many of memories of his time in the business are preserved in various issues of Back IssueComment

^Yes, he was frequently interviewed in Back Issue. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a tribute issue.
He was one of those artists I didn't like as a kid, but really appreciate now. I think he was better suited to titles like Dracula and Batman, with lots of shadows and atmosphere.
I recently got the first TOD Essential volume, and his work looks phenomenal in black and white! A true innovator. He had his own unique style.

Great artist with a instantly recognizable style. RIP Gene. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

The loss of great man who illustrated the backdrops of many of our childhoods. It's dizzying and deflating how many of the creators/artists of the GA-SA-BA are passing away these days. Even though most have lived good, long, lives it's still hard to know that they are gone. Thankfully they've left a permanent legacy of their creations!Comment

Interesting line in the Yahoo News report..:
"While at Marvel, Colan and Lee co-created The Falcon, an African-American character that was a hero in his own right, working in tandem with Captain America, but never as a sidekick."
I guess I missed that creative credit for Mr. Colan, but he's partially responsible for creating Sam Wilson.Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.
