    >nice to see them using different characters

Well.... kinda. It runs the risk of being the 90's X-Men spinoffs, where they'd produce an old story but shoehorn Rogue and/or Gambit into it.

    >and nice to see no Wolverine

Yeah; THAT I agree with wholeheartedly. After the last 30 years of appearances they guy could use a bit of a break.

    >no tentpole characters to appeal to the fan base

I dunno.... isn't Emma Frost one of their mainstays these days?

The vibe I'm getting is very, very positive. I predict this will be the favorite comic movie this Summer among board members. It might not make the most money, but I have a feeling it'll really grab those who are not expecting anything major. I fully expect to love this film.

Of course I thought The Adventures of Ford Fairlane was going to be funny, so I could be wrong...
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

              Link to Spoiler

Love the Cuban Missile Crisis as the setting.

While I would have liked to have seen Cyclops and Jean in the film, I like exploring the Xavier-Magneto relationship. i quit reading the X-men books in the early 90s, but up to that point only one issue covered their early relationship. I think it's cool they are plowing new ground. I want new stories on the big screen not adaptions of stuff I've already read.

Just got back from seeing this and wasn't really bowled over by it. There are flourishes of brilliance with some great scenes but overall it was very middling. It sort of reminded me of X3, in that it could have been great but fell way short.

The (blue furry) Beast by the way looks awful. I think they could have done a lot better with his make-up, and made it come alive on screen instead of just looking like a guy in a suit! The geek in me was very disappointed!

I came home from seeing the 12:05 AM showing in Queens, NY.

4 stars I say! I was very impressed. I haven't read X-Men comics regularly since the 1980's. I am not a big X-Men fan but this is a very mature X-Men film. This is a film about beginnings and I would say it's better than Batman Begins in that respect. If you like Superhero films, if you like comic books, if you like the X-Men in particular you will likely enjoy this film. They can't please everybody, as I see from 1 comment above, and continuity is played with a bit; but I think it works.

The actors are very, very good. Kudos to Kevin Bacon in particular. Somehow he really fits into this period setting. James MacVoy is great and so is Michael Fassbender. You will enjoy the action, the funny parts, the well-known actors in supporting roles, and a whole lot of stuff I can't even tell you.

If you have doubts; just go see it. Bryan Singer didn't direct this film but he co-wrote and co-produced it and the director, Matthew Vaughn, understands how X-Men work. The film is in good hands. I don't recommend bringing small children tho. Some characters, good and bad guys alike, meet very cruel & unusual deaths.

One spoiler: you don't have to stay past the end credits. This is not Paramount; this is 20th Century Fox and they don't have any tie-in films coming out.
