(Un)fortunately I learned a lot of things from movies and before someone coined "edutainment" I believed that if you could throw in a useful or worthwhile teaching into a movie, play, skit, entertainment piece that didn't compromise it's entertainment value, I thought that was ideal.

I got a lot of my "news" from staying up late watching Johnny Carson's monologue. At one point I thought that at least some of his material was based on real news that I would not watch anyway.

I think John Stewart later made a career from this belief of mine on the Daily Show...

But I digress. Thanks again for the nod Kingdom Warrior. I'll seek you out if I make it to MegoMeet.

Sure it's nice to write something new. But most creators go into the industry wanting to one day write their favorite hero story. And I've spoken to so many of them through the years from Stan Lee to Jim Lee. Look at current Spider-man scribe Dan Slott. He told me his mission in life was to write Spider-man and look at some of the magi he's doing. Regardless, Spider-man is his favorite superhero.

Late to the party here, but that was a nice write-up. It's no secret Superman and Shazam are my two favorite characters in all of comics and pop culture. Those were my first two Megos as a child. I grew up watching George Reeves reruns and the Shazam saturday morning show. Based on my earliest, limited knowledge, I considered them equals.

            I still do.

I've tried to collect all issues with both of them making appearances. My favorite comic I own is the giant size versus issue from 1976 or so. In the comic book world, I was stunned at how much respect Ross showed for the two of them in Kingdom Come, my all-time favorite story. DC will never truly market them as equals and rightly so. Supes is their flagship dude, and that's fine. I just wish they could find a way to incorporate Cap into continuity full-time. There have been hints of this but then they backed off.

As far as a fight, it's pretty even. Superman was first but has a fatal flaw(kryptonite). Cap has god-infused powers but is derivative of Superman. I wonder how much this debate would different had Fawcett been allowed to continue his publication?

I cannot pick a favorite, I have equal love and respect for both. It's nice to see someone else with the same reverence for these two guys write about the subject with such passion.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I've always thought of them being roughly equal. My thinking is that Supes would have to use a lot of energy in a all out fight with Captain Marvel, ala the first Doomsday fight. He would have to use everything in his arsenal (Marvel would too). Supes probably can take Cap but it will be at a big price.

I agree and I believe it can go the other way around on the same given day. They are total equals with strengths and weaknesses that balance each other out.

I love the write up. The arguments for or against whenever I see these generally become emotional (depending on which hero is your preference). Despite the sources (which are great btw); I can't come to any conclusion other than an even draw. They are both practically invincible and both with very slike weaknesses. If you throw everything out and they fight in a neutral setting without their weaknesses being exposed; I can only come to the conclusion that they would be in an eternal dead even draw.

Now this is a nice post!! Thanks Mr. West.

When legends Jim Shooter and Roy Thomas themselves send me emails and tell me this write up is impressive and perfect, I can't help but know I was on the right track. Like I said before, it was made to honor BOTH icons and I wrote down nothing but truth without being biased either way and I know it shows. Sure some fanboys nitpick things here and there (more because of there heart than head) but I know in my heart it's PERFECT!!

Great write up! it looks like both Alex Ross and Bruce Timm both give it to Supes and Roy Thomas gives it to Cap. It's partially up to the reader to decide which representation of these characters is the definative representation. To me, "Kindom Come" was THE Epic story and "Clash" was an Epic one on one battle. All Star Squadron #36 was just one issue of a comic title that had to have Cap vs the Squadron, not an Epic one on one battle. My opinion... Superman!
