That's a great shot. Hardy's certainly muscular, but he's not massive enough to be and effective Bane. He's a good actor, which is important, but with Nolan being adverse to CGI I don't think that's the answer.
I know there's choices (sort of like the still), angles and camera tricks that can be used to imply height and on screen, but mass is a lot tougher.
I probably shouldn't be second-guessing Nolan. The vast majority of his choices have been impeccable with the Batman property, and this will probably work, too. But I'm feeling contrary tonight.Comment

According to an article I read, Hardy's 5-10 and he's bulked up to 210 pounds for the role. He's not big enough to play linebacker for the high school football team I cover.
In the comics, Bane made Batman look small and Batman's supposed to be around 6-2, 220 or so.
Again, it's a movie. The guy's a decent actor. Nolan's extremely creative and skilled and he will likely make this work better than I can imagine, but don't try to convince me a 5-10, 210-pound guy even remotely fits the look of the character in the comic.
I've always thought Bane was a lame character, and I hope he's just muscle for the real threat in the film.
Dark Knight rises seems to be really crowded with Catwoman, Ra's al Ghul, Talia and Bane. Plus there is the plot thread from the end of Dark Knight of Batman being at odds with Gotham police. Maybe that won't be addressed or will be background.
But again Nolan rolled a lot into the first two films.Comment

I also worry that they'll fall into the "too many villains" trap with the third movie. It's something that superhero film sequels very often do, unfortunately.
And yeah... it kind of bugs me too when the actors don't measure up physically to the characters they're portraying.
Look at the Thor movie. In the comics, Thor stands 6' 6" and weighs 640 lbs.
But realistically, I guess we can't always expect them to be able to fill these roles with good actors who are also close physical matches to the characters.
This has admittedly become less of an issue as a result of advances in CGI over the last decade or so, but will always be a concern to some extent.Last edited by Bruce Banner; May 23, '11, 4:31 AM.PUNY HUMANS!Comment
