I'm kind of wondering if they DID sell the farm. After all, Martha basically begged Clark not to do it, and then throughout the episode Clark SLOWLY realized he didn't have to disregard every shred of his past to be "The Hero".
Remember Pa Kent's now famous last words "Always hold on to Smallville".
So Shelby may still be frolicking through the back 40.

but in a philosophical or spiritual sense."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Your post hits upon many solid points, yet I find the irony of the man with the L&C avatar posting right under yours.
Time will tell if SMALLVILLE has the impact of a Reeve/Reeves show...
I think it's impact'll be closer to L&C's scale as a result
of what kind of stuff drove both shows... stuff that worked well
with the shows, but may not have the strength to endure beyond that.
Even if it's just this one thing, here is the lasting impact of Lois and Clark...
They even made sure that they synced up the event with the marriage in the comics (hence the Death of Superman to delay the marriage storyline).
Coming up on two decades and they are still married, and Smallville has followed that track as well in these final episodes this past year.
Otherwise we might very well still be knee deep in Weisinger era Lois The Snoop storylines! Instead there is the evolution of her as a strong partner who supports and shares his life as Clark and Superman. As opposed to some kind of odd antagonist always trying to find out his secret identity or getting him to marry her. Would it have happened anyways? Probably. But Mike Carlin, Jeanette Khan, the creative teams, et al have gone on record as saying that Lois and Clark provided a strong impetus to go with it.
Not a bad benchmark for Lois and Clark's addition to the Superman mythos given that they were only on the air for three years. Smallville's been a decade long institution at this point. Buffy was on for what? Seven years and look at the rabid fanbase that show still has, particularly amongst females. As much as comics fans in these parts aren't so into the soap opera elements, as a result we have an entire generation of females in their teens and twenties who are now Superman (and Lois) fans as a result.Last edited by samurainoir; May 24, '11, 12:49 PM.Comment

For me I'm satisfied with the ending. Even though I would have loved to see more of the Legion of Doom and the JSA and JLA kicking the crap out of 'em... in the end the show for me delivered... We watched Clark grow up and become Superman.
It's funny though... in the end scene where they strike up the John Williams score I still see "this" Clark as having become more like the George Reeves Superman than the Christopher Reeve incarnation. That's very good for me. It's like with the final stroke of the pen they turned the Smallville stage from 90210 teen angst into comic book fun and fantasy.Comment

The Legion of Doom thing... You're overthinking.
That was simply establishing those villains. They're all still out to get their respective man. The only thing that was stopped, is that they didn't go after Clark while he wasn't powered. Lois saved him. Other than that, you are to fill in the gaps. Those guys are villains and such. They fight their heroes.
Tess didn't disappear. She died. While I'm sure Clark asked questions and Lex wondered about her... Lex is still evil. He just doesn't remember his past with Clark. So him killing someone, isn't that big of a deal to him. Clark no doubt found out that Tess sacrificed herself for him. Nothing major plot hole wise there, IMO.
The rest didn't seem that relevant. Some questions are unanswered because you're supposed to infer some.Comment
