While true for the "modern" era (post crists reboot by John Byrne) it changes in the post ww2 to 85 focused more on his kryptionian history not Clark.

I love when history is painted with such a broad brush.

You may not mean it that way, but it is, especially within the context of the other things you are saying in this thread. I honestly don't think you are putting much thought into the words you are using. I think you're so wrapped up the emotion of being patriotic that you don't see how that comes off to the rest of the world when you say stuff like "if not for his American idealism and upbringing where would his underlying moral barometer be?" (which implies that other countries don't have morals as good as the U.S.) and "And if we didn't try [to do what's best for everyone], who would? Answer: No one" (which implies that no other country does good work in the world).

One of the creators of Superman is Canadian. Superman is only a half American. However, I'm proud of the fact that people from both our great countries combined efforts to give us the first best hero.

I assure you that is not my intent at all. My point is that as an American I am proud of that and our accomplishments. One of those being the creation, building and branding of Superman.

When I say America is first and best I do not mean it to be a slam against other countries. It's just what we do. Since the beginning of the Cold War to today, America has always been to me a beacon that stands just a little higher than everyone else. Not that we're better we just handle our "super power" status properly (well we used to). We take initiative and action faster, because in a lot of ways it IS our responsibility. Plus like it or not, in most cases the global community turns to us to see what we think or are going to do in regards to certain matters. The reason for that is a confidence in the American diplomatic process that has been earned over the span of a couple hundred years.

In the end I do not think "American's" are better than anyone else. For that matter I don't think ANY nationality deserves to be boosted up on a pedestal. I'm more of the mind to boost up and celebrate (or boo) an individual on a one by one basis. To paint a broadstroke is racist and believe me brother, that's one thing I'm not.

Has anyone actually read the issue? I bought it yesterday. It has several stories so I've been rationing them out over the week because its the only comic I bought. I don't recall this story so I must not have read that one. I did read a touching story about Jor'El hiring a man to help him build a certain rocket ship.

Metropolis as created and envisioned by Joe Shuster is actually Toronto, where he grew up (and worked at The Star, the newspaper Clark Kent originally worked for).

I'm not a comic reader so i'm not sure how their stories are presented but it seems making Superman officially global might box in writers and stories.

Example, because he's American the US will not let him help out the Middle Easters ... This is good and keeps Superman well into the real world.

If Supes becomes global he can just knock out all bad leaders and dictatorships in one day changing the entire world

For some this might be good, but it would also make future stories totally unrealistic.

Supes must have limitations, if not in body, in mind.
