For the sake of not taking this thread to a dark place, I'll back away. But MegoSteve I do hope you can find some good from America. The good that I know has allowed for the modern world to exist. I'm sorry but IMO the American spirit and freedoms have allowed for the greatest achiements in human histoy. And yes I acknowledge that there are dark spots in our history, but guess what? We've fixed alot and continue to do so thanks to the American idealism that all people are created equally. Is it perfect? No. Could it be better? Yes. But in the end I'll stand proud in my status as a U.S. citizen. -
Pre-WWII America was great if you were a white male, but it wasn't so great if you were black, brown, red, yellow, female, gay, or non-Christian.
Yeah, you're right again! No other country in the world ever does anything charitable or helpful to other countries.

Not what I was saying or implying.
IMO without Superman's American heritage he would not be who he is today. Sorry folks but pre WWII America was a strong and proud land that earned what we had and shared as we should. Today's America IS different but don't let this flash in the bucket era give our heritage a black eye. Superman IS American. And just like America as I see her, will always do what is best for everyone, everywhere. We always have. No, not every decision we've made has been great but we do try. And if we didn't try, who would? Answer: No one.Leave a comment:

Man, if DC aren't rebooting his origin every few years, they're making dumb moves like this.
Worst decision since giving him long hair!Last edited by Bruce Banner; Apr 29, '11, 7:21 AM.Leave a comment:

Thank you aquatroy! Another point and then I'll shut up... Can't we 'evil' Americans at least have one thing of our own? To share Superman is great and I'm cool with that but this just seems like DC is making Superman spit in our eyes. Man this really burns me up.Leave a comment:

I just saw this this morning. ***? This is simply wrong. I don't give a rats backside about political correctness and I care even less about always having to make classic characters more modern. This is simply stupid and a wonderful way to ensure that I will NEVER buy another DC book again. There's an even bigger chance that I won't buy anymore DC licensed products as well. Yep that includes the RA's and that sucks but man you got to stand for something.
I am sorry planet Earth, Superman is American. His backstory has always been viewed as the perfect analogy for immigrants coming to this country, having a dream and living it. Superman serves the entire planet, but if not for his American idealism and upbringing where would his underlying moral barometer be?Leave a comment:

I've always thought of Superman not only as an adopted child of the Kents in the U.S.A. but he has been adopted by us as a human resident of the Planet Earth, (fictionally). Still I realize DC has to do a stupid storyline like this because they have a high-paid, hollywood writer and they must think his ideas can't ever be bad if he writes blockbuster films. This too shall pass.
Lets see David S. Goyers credits so far, from Wikipedia:

Eisenhower was also an international hero and a U.S. citizen. Not mutually exclusive.
I've yet to read the issue. I hope DC does more with this than just a 10-page story, meant to get headlines. Renouncing citizenship seems to be a fairly petty action.
Plus isn't renouncing his citizenship an acknowledgment that he is a U.S. citizen in the first place? This would be a a huge slip-up on Superman's part in my mind. Why would anyone assume he had an identity other than Superman. He doesn't wear a mask, so it's not like he's trying to hide something. But renouncing his citizenship would mean he was a citizen in the first place. This could lead to the US attempting to ferret out that identity.
That might make a good story, but it would also make Superman appear awfully stupid to make such a blunder.Leave a comment:

He's been an illegal alien since the '86 reboot at least. the Kents never officially adopted him, and just claimed that Martha gave birth to him after they were snowed in all winter.
At least he hasn't turned his back on his Canadian heritage...
