    Superman renounces US citizenship? WHAT?!!!

So much for "Truth, justice, and the American way..." Unbelievable. Uhm... this is about the written history of the character, not about America. If he had been a part of Australia and renounced it there, I would be just as outraged. Not intended to be a political statement. I just believe characters should stay true to their heritage, that's all.

But as Clark Kent he is an adopted child granted US citizenship. I think DC Comics made a bad mistake by trying to be provocative in this manner. You don't see the Black Panther shaming his country. You don't see the Phantom giving the finger to the Bengalla jungle. What's up with Superman? Jeez. I never really thought about Superman as an "American value" anyway. But to suggest your going to renounce your country to speak for the world is really over the top! That's a slippery slope DC is climbing. I think the Watchmen covered the failures of assuming your morality fits the common good of all. So unnecessary.

Just another attempt by DC to get a sound byte on the next news cycle...Especially since their last one about Supes walking across America really didn't generate tons of sales and the writer (JMS) left mid-stream and handed his plots over to others....

So far it is just one provocative panel. Very well could be like those classic fake-out covers... "Superman Turns to Life of Crime" or whatnot...

I'll withhold judgement until we see how this plays out.

I think this will blow up in DC's face, proving there is such a thing as bad publicity. With a new movie gaining steam and Smallville sailing into it's finale, and they pull this.

Why not just have him murder Lois? Makes about as much sense.

              From Wikipedia:
"In 2011, Goyer wrote a short story titled "The Incident" in which Superman renounces his U.S. citizenship. The story caused a furor, the severest implications of which are yet to be seen. By attacking one of the United States' most enduring patriotic symbols, Goyer placed himself square in the bullseye of everyday Americans who were deeply offended by his actions."

This is the stupidity of the pussification of America at it's finest. This is the reason why PC is the corruption of America.

Thank you DC's stellar leadership for this one. DiDio, Lee and Johns. Three brilliant "creators"

Like Superman being a vegetarian, this is an aspect of new continuity that I'll ignore. Worst thing is that a guy that doesn't get Superman came up with the story and at least the first draft of the screenplay for the new movie.

If Clark or his parents lied on his birth certificate it's not official

Hopefully, this'll get ignored or fixed retroactively down the line in future stories. While I understand the motivations for doing so, the approach they took was a mistake.

Through all the good deeds he's done, Superman probably already has honorary citizen of the world/roving ambassador status from the UN anyway. Hell, the Justice League probably has UN backing as well as being considered a peace-keeping force too.

No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

                              Ridiculous!

Just done as a way to make the character more "marketable" overseas.
