Totally agree, The Ultimates by Mark Millar and artist Bryan Hitch was a breath of fresh air taking beloved characters and giving them a fresh new start, I was never so excited and so into a book when they were on it.......and interesting how those versions are the ones that the movies will be loosely based on.....
Caps movie costume is the Ultimates inspired version.....
For those reading Ultimate Spider-man, I'm suspecting this might be more of a stunt revisiting "Spider-man No More" given Bendis' exploration in the most recent issues around how irresponsible it is for a teenager to be doing what Peter does (almost a response to Kick *** in a way).
Also, Ultimate Spider-man has been addressing an issue that Steve Ditko always believed central to the character... only a teenager could get away with messing up the way Spider-Man does. Plus, for those constantly decrying that comics aren't for kids... here is a Spider-man comic that has been THE gateway comic/graphic novel set in Walmart, Convenience Stores, and Magazine racks for the past decade. Who are they going to relate to better? The teenager with Archie-style girl problems and balancing an afterschool job or a grown up married to a supermodel?
The most recent Thor and Captain America Ultimate miniseries by Jason Aaron have been terrific as well. It's to his credit that he's able to right such polar opposites on the political spectrum so incredibly well. In this day and age of political antagonism, I think it's a great lesson to learn that extreme left wing and right wing nutjobs can work together, respect each other and even be great friends despite their differences.Comment
