My dad wasn't a superhero comic guy, his prime comic reading age was during the late 1940's to early 1950's, when superhero comics were almost non-existent. The only comics he remembers reading were the Carl Barks Donald Duck comics and maybe some ECs. Unfortunately, my grandmother threw them all away when he left home to join the navy. Dammit, that was prime stuff!

Hmmmm....
Both did, and still do. (I brought my stepdad one of them Savage Sword of Conan collections just a few days ago.) When I was a kid, EVERYONE in the family read comics. (My Gran'pa was possibly the most dedicated Dredd fan ever....) My first exposure to comics was stuff like the Warren mags, Mad and Heavy Metal.

both of my parents did...and I always heard the story about how granma and grandpa threw away all their comics....on both sides
my mom I think read them into college so that is probably where my love of all things superhero comes fromComment

My Dad used to read Mandrake The Magician when he was a kid in Sicily. Few months before he passed away my Bro gave him a Mandrake comic book Book of Mandrake stories in Italian...unfortunately he never got the chance to re-read the stories.
I think my Dad's link to comics was one of the reason's he put up with me and my brothers enthusiasm and collecting of comics. I wish I could find my Dad's drawing of Hawkman he did for me from an issue of All Star Squadron. Did it freehand right from the book."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

I think when I was 11 my dad saw me reading a "Turock" and said "I used to read those"
Turns out he had his own "Comic Book Exchange" in the garage, where kids would give him 2 comics for a new one.
My dad amassed hundreds of comics but gave up when he was 13, my grandfather took a wheelbarrow full of them to the neighbour kids house, who declared him "a swell fellow".Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions
