Superman 4: The Quest For Peace

OK, I've never seen this movie and it was on cable last night. I can't imagine anyone really liked this movie. It just seemed that the producers were just trying too hard, (as were the actors).

What did you guys think of this movie?

It didn't have enough budget, and was produced by Hollywood hack Menahem Golan. They brought you Captain America too. Without a script and good budget, you have very little left to work with, regardless of cast. You probably noticed the cheap budget just in the opening credits alone. It didn't help they had Reeves flying like the TV Shazam to boot.

It had it's heart in the right place, and some interesting ideas, but the budget was cut in half after all the actors were on set, and the script was W-E-A-K.

My son really liked this one a few years back. I think because Superman actually fought someone. It does come across as a Superman After School special or something.

Superman 3 still has the great production values of the first two movies. Reeve is in great shape (he was a bit thin for 4), the Evil Supes/Clark fight is cool, the chemical plant fire is cool. There are some parts of 3 that are done very well. I can't say that about 4. Good ideas, bad execution.

I prefer to believe that parts 3 and 4, as well as that Ratner thing, dont EXIST...its easier this way.

I LOVE the first two Supes films SO much, seeing those latter two is all the MORE painful......kind of like enjoying the pairing of filet and lobster tails, only to be served two platters of feces for dessert....

It was bad BUT...

It had CR in it.

And Lex was back as well as Lois (forbetter or worse) They went with a super powered bad guy.

If you watch the deleted scenes available in the DVD set it helps the movie make sense.
They were going for a Bizarro story subplot but it didn't make any sense without the deleted stuff.
There are other huge 'Huh?' moments because of bad editing.

Not that the deleted scenes fix the movie but they certainly help.

Oh - and I liked 3 better than 4 because I don't care for Kidder. I Don't like Hackman's Lex. I like O'toole. I can't stand Duckie - 2 1/2 men guy. I loved the bad supes and redemption fight. It is a silly movie, but not bad.

^ I can see this, sure, kind of like Lester's horrid butchering of Donner's original work.

After buying and watching (many times over..) Superman II The Donner Cut, I cant even LOOK at the Lester version now...when its on TV I turn it straight away...

As for 'Bizarro', thats funny you'd say that....thats the FIRST thing my wife said when I showed her the junkyard scene from part 3 - "You didnt tell me that BIZARRO was in this!?!"

I always liked Superman 4

It wasn't great, but it was 100% better than Superman-3 and Superman Returns
