I lied, I've seen him on Tudors! I kept thinking he looked familiar, but in Tudors he had a full beard for 2 seasons so I didn't recognize him.

re-booting Superman AGAIN is completely useless if you don't use the built in cast of Smallville. You have a built in following already and you can take it from the smallscreen to the big screen and A LOT of people would be completely satisfied and happy with the choices of who will play what character. It would be the easiest series finale in history of TV...Have Welling don the suit in the final scene and then have the disclaimer..."Watch for the further adventures of Superman coming Christmas of 2012..." I just don't get the fascination of WB basically destroying the character yet again with what may be a very lame re-boot. It just boggles the mind sometimes how NO ONE at DC or Marvel can see something that's RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. It's no wonder they are losing their audiences.
I do agree with you completely....my first Choice is Tom Welling, and the Cast of Smallville.sigpicComment

I agree w/just about everybody here... I just ask one MAIN thing:
"Make the dang movie already.""No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

I don't know him from Adam, but he looks like he could pull it off.
I'm a big fan of Smallville and of Tom Welling as Clark. But I don't think Warners would want to relaunch a billion dollar franchise based on a TV show. Most TV shows to movies tank. Look at the last X-Files movie, and the 2nd Sex and the City. Even the 66 Batman movie tanked, in the middle of Bat-mania.
Plus, Bryan Singer already made a sequel to a previous version of Superman. And the movie underperformed. So I doubt there was ever any serious consideration of continuing Smallville on the big screen. As much as I'd love to see it.
But this shows promise. I trust Nolan, and Zack Snyder certainly makes visually stimulating films. Give us a good story, and a good threat for Superman. Let him PUNCH something. Go out in space. Brainiac. Bizarro. Darkseid. If Lex is in it, NOT as the main villain. And not Zod. Only keep the theme from the Reeve movies. I love them, they are my favorite version of Superman, but let's try something different.

I'm not saying he wont give a great performance. I'm not saying the movie won't be good. I'm just saying he looks like superboy, not the man of steel.
THIS is Superman;

This is just a very sensitive subject for me. I think heroes should look like heroes. They should be tall, muscular and manly... They should represent what people aspire to be. What little kids dream about being when they read comics. If Superman looks "normal", what is there to aspire to? What's iconic about him or heroic? Especially in the tough times this country is going through right now, audiences need an American icon that is larger than life. Not a 27 year old kid with rubber muscles, I'm sorry.
All the "performance" in the world will not make the guy look or "seem" bigger, more manly or more heroic. It's the archetypes and icons that these actors are representing that is of the utmost importance. A respect and reverence for them MUST be shown if the conceit of the film is going to work... In other words; The guy needs to look like Superman, not someone simply wearing a Superman costume.
This remains to be seen.
