I like Seth Rogan, but I'm not nuts about Gondry - I did think that "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" was fantastic though.
To Gondry's credit, he always tries something different, I just don't think they pan out well - for me anyway.Comment

Anyone hearing how this is for kids? My son is 9 and has seen about all the recent super hero flicks, so as long as it's not beyond a PG-13, I think he'll be okay.
I know I wouldn't let him within a mile of most of Rogen's flicks. I like the guy in comedies, but for kids they ain't!
That will play a large part in whether I see it in the theater or not. If the boy can go, I probably will too. If not, we'll me and the missus rarely get a movie night.

Chris, the reviews I'm hearing say Seth Rogen is using a lot of toilet language in this. It's NOT a superhero movie. It's strictly for Seth Rogen fans. And it's truly a strange concept. He's trying to script a film for his fan base around a satire of a hero they know nothing about. And the generation that did grow up with Van Williams (who would "get" the joke) are not interested in that treatment. So he wrote it for himself with minimal market share to sell it to.Comment

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

I got free passes to the screening of this movie last month, and I am paying to see it in 3D this weekend.Comment

The Ebert review is in - EEOUCH! A rare (for him) one star:
The Green Hornet :: rogerebert.com :: Reviews
Here are a few quotes:
"The Green Hornet is an almost unendurable demonstration of a movie with nothing to be about."
"Jay Chou is no Bruce Lee, but it's hard to judge him as an actor with Rogen hyperventilating through scene after scene."
"The director of this half-cooked mess is Michel Gondry, whose “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is as good as this one is bad."Comment

Of course I know that Rogan has this rep as a goofy stoner, but I respect that he cared enough to physically change his image for this film.
The film's MO--of a spoiled, disaffected playboy who is inspired to "rise above" is realistic & plausible for Rogan. Modern viewers will likely see this as a Batman riff, but from what I can tell, the film seems pretty failthful to the source material.Comment

Rotten Tomatoes has it down to 39% fresh. And that's only with 66 reviews in! Too many questions about this film. And when it comes to the unknown, the public tends to lean on critical mass for consideration.This thing is going to bomb. I myself never had any questions. We need a serious version. Unfortunately our genre will take a hit for this failure. That's why I hope it fades quickly! Critics will use this bomb to pick on Thor and Captain America.Comment

Aaron Eckart would have a made a kick as Hornet and would have treated the matriel with respect Christhoper Pike was our second choice oh hell J.J Abrahms would be a better one
I think the critics still have respect for Kenneth Brannagh This film is all about the acting and a script Mr Hamlet himself would not cast ham and eggers. the Aassgard scenes look truly amazing this film will wash the bad taste from the Hornet mess in May as For Cap. I have faith in director Joe Johnston he knows the genre well but its a wait and see attitudeLast edited by kennermike; Jan 13, '11, 4:24 PM.Comment
