Koehaha...The Stream of Ruthlessness...I seem to remember a Golden Age ring-slinger being under the effect of this and trying to kill his fellow JSA members and his own children and their friends...

Seems to me this is very similar to a Silver Age ring-slinger being under the influence of an evil entity known as Parallax, no?

See kids, doing your homework in debates such as this helps out...otherwise all everyone hears is a bunch of white noise

This is a joke that got way out of hand, but at this point I'm gonna go with it, because I have little choice.

1: The 90s happened, and if I had my way, Superman Blue would wake up and the last 10 years would have been nothing but a dream.

2: Don't matter how you retcon it, Hal is a killer. He's responsible, and he's admitted to such. There's plenty of proof out there for those who don't bury their heads in the sand and try to forget it.

he didn't bend to any influence, he WAS Parallax. and even after the retcon, 52 says he's responsible regardless.

I like creamy peanut butter, better than chunky.

So what time is everyone getting to the mill?

I'm thinking this time, it might not be so bad if everyone brought torches, because it would save on co-ordinating with the pitchforks. Plus, you know what would be really neat? If we had different coloured torches from the colour spectrum, just like Blackest Night. Dibs on Orange, 'cause that Larfleeze is hil-ar-e-ous.

And why does Geoff Johns hate on G'nort so much? The broccoli guy and the fish guy get Blackest Night action figures and G'nort doesn't even warrant a cameo in any of those double page spreads of hundreds and hundreds of green lanterns?

            >You do realize these funny book characters aren't real people, right?

THIS is an interesting point: I’ve found there are two types of comic reader, one who comes into the stories strictly from the story point of view, and another who comes in with more awareness of the production end. Often folks don’t know which they are.... or that there are two types.... and that leads to all sorts of confusion.

“Hal IS a murderer” is the first. Here’s a perspective based entirely on the stories themselves, with no regard to how they come about. Most folks start from this perspective.... especially as kids.

“I ignore the 90's” is the second. This perspective acknowledges that outside forces.... trends, sales, stunt writing.... all have an effect on the story. Usually folks accidentally end up as this once they get older and their subconscious knowledge of how the world really works starts creeping in.

I don’t think either is superior. The first is more fun for the reader, but the second seems inevitable. I personally started as the second.... way back when I was a kid. (Which is why I didn’t like superheroes.) I kinda became the first as I got older. (Discovering superheroes are okay if you cut the genre some slack first.)

My icon clearly shows where i fall in the who's better debate.

Simply put Alan Scott is the original Green Lantern and as a child of the 30's & 40's he has magic based powers (magic lantern = magic lamp of Alladin without the Genini - he worked for Johnny Thunder). Hal Jordon and The GLC was the 60's space age reimaginging. It worked. I think Alan worked best in the pre crisis earth 2 but then I prefered the pre crisis continuty for everything. Post crisis they have done a decent job fitting him in and he was a key mentor in the Kyle rayner era

Both have had periods of madness and attacked freinds and family, and in the end later writers find a way to make these periods go away when it's no longer good business to have them bad.
Pyscho Pirate has been very successful at manipulating Alan.
Both have super villian ex's (Harlequin and Thorn for Alan, Star Saphire for Hal)
