Alan Scott vs. Hal Jordan - someone fill me in

I don't want to go through the entire convoluted history to find the answers, so I'm hoping some of the comic historians here(Anthony, Ed, Terry) could shed some green light on this.

How does DC currently explain the existence of Alan Scott's power ring and lantern and the Corp lanterns and rings? Is it one HUGE cooincidence or is there some connection between the rings? How is it that some dude in a gawdy suit has a green ring powered by magic and the guardians have rings powered by emotions? Maybe there never was an explanation, but I cannot connect the dots.

Any ideas how they can both exist and still remain plausible? I can't wrap my mind around the fact that two characters with NOTHING in common have power rings form different sources that basically do the same thing.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

There was just a Real Big Cross Over in JLA/JSA A few Months Back, and they really Covered the Powers of the StarHeart to Extreme Degree somewhat. It was actually pretty good, I liked it alot.

          It is simple:

One is awesome, and the greatest Green Lantern ever.

the other is Hal Jordan, who is a sociopath, and murderer.
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures

I've never really liked the Starheart explanation, particularly when Earths 1 and 2 were blended together.

I really wish Scott's ring and lantern would have wound up being Corps equipment used by a GL back in ancient days that got stranded on Earth until Scott ran across after the railroad accident. The ancient GL could have just called the ring and Lantern t magic and the Starheart lore could have developed around them as they fell into different hands over the century. Heck, you could even connect Vandal Savage to it, making them natural enemies.

But, then Jade and Obsidian's origins would become more convoluted, but If I were the Czar of DC comics I would readily sacrifice both of those crappy characters to link Alan to the Corps. If Scott were a part of the Corps, he would have a larger role in the DCU, other than being the powerhouse who is almost always regulated to the sidelines. Heck, the latest issue of the JSA has him with a broken neck or paralyzed after a battle. I'm guessing DC's going to put him in Ross' Emerald Knight suit from Kingdom Come. It's a decent connection to that storyline, but I like Alan and don't want to see him become even less mobile.

I literally pretend most of the 90's didn't happen when it comes to the DC Universe. That's how I work around it. No electric Superman. No Parallax. No dead Oliver Queen. Yes to Tim Drake becoming Robin. Nightfall was cool. I'm okay with Doomsday.

You do realize these funny book characters aren't real people, right?

You took this thread I started to actually learn something about the books I read and characters I love and crushed it under the weight of your moldy soapbox. I have no doubt everyone here knows your feelings on Jordan and Kord, it's been well-documented. If you cannot add something to the discussions in a thread, be it new information, a new point of view, something funny or even something relevant, then maybe it's best to pull back and re-evaluate your maturity.

I posted requesting answers. All you provided was a wet, splattering Mister Blistershard across my monitor. Not appreciated.
