Green Lantern movie - What do we know?

There's been a lot of secrecy surrounding this production, and aside from the Entertainment Weekly teasers, I haven't seen anything except the cryptic movie posters. Are there any good pics ou there aside from that article and the COmic Con? My wife just called me from the hospital saying she saw some footage on an entertainment show about an hour ago adn said it looked awesome.

Here's what I've read, not necessarily true.

Alan Scott makes an appearance as a non-ringed fringe character

Guy Gardner is played by Eric Johnson from Smallville

Parallax makes an appearance at the end and leads directly into the sequel

Kyle Rayner is not in the film, no confirmation on John Stewart

Anyone else got something to add? I haven't been this excited about a movie in a long, long time.

I know a guy in town that worked on the set and he's wearing a GL jacket around. I thought about mugging him and trading it to BK for some toys, but that wouldn't be very cool. I'm totally kidding anyway, about the mugging part, the rest is true.

First off, that clip made me so happy. Would I have preferred they used a cloth suit? Yes. But this is the closes I have ever seen to my favorite hero coming to life and it brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. On the notes you have from what I've read The Parallax part is not true, in fact I heard he will be the main villain of the movie, they seem to be combining him with Hector Hammond's origin to make them one in the same. I also heard about the Guy Gardner thing but the only report is from IMDB and they are also the ones who broke the news the Aunt May was playing Carnage in Spider-Man 3. I have not been this excited in a long time for a film and while there seems to be a lot of haters all ready I will go see it and I will hopefully love it!

The way they did the suit looks awful and Ryan Reynolds is completely wrong... Sigh... But of course, all the little comic book fans will flock to this turd of a film, just like they do all the rest of them, further feeding the Hollywood poop machine, enabling them to shove more stupidity like this down our throats. I really wish people's attitude towards these films was more of the "It could have been so much better..." instead of "Isn't this great? We got a GL movie!!!".

^ I agree, sadly. They will never be able to "recapture the magic" without GOOD actors, a GOOD script, and a story with HEART. I won't completely judge the GL picture because I havent seen it, but if any recent 'blockbuster' superhero films are any indicator, I'm afraid that it's going to be more of the same: Bruckheimer/Singer-type junkfood formula that we have grown to know ........BANG - aliens - BOOM - breasts - POW - (insert 22-year-old buffoon cast as one of our beloved characters) - pseudo climactic and CG addled 'dramatic' scenes - KABOOM!! - Current 'epic pop' song plays - etc..etc...

The kid that played the Torch (inadequately) as CAPTAIN AMERICA?!? The doofus that was in those schlocky 'comedies' as HAL JORDEN??
Ah well, they will be SUPER hits with their intended audiences, no doubt.

Sorry to come off as negative here guys, honestly I am normally a very positive guy, but good god....watch the classic Superman series and also watch the first two films - and then tell me HONESTLY how you feel about Brandon Routh...


On a POSITIVE note, as far as recent Superhero films are concerned, I will say -

The two recent Batman films - Very nice!
Chiklis' version of Ben Grimm - Wonderful!
The lates HULK picture - Not too shabby at all!

If you want to see DECENT versions of our DC favorites on celluloid, watch the animated films.

I would prefer to not see Reynolds on film at ALL, , but if he had to take part I'd cast him as Guy Gardner - the seminal snarky ******bag Lantern.

Reynolds has been Fantastic in Every Movie He has Ever Been in, imo.
I enjoy the Guys Work, and Acting. I think He will be Great in GL.

Because I read so Many GL Comics ..., and Know so Much, I think I will be Somewhat Disapointed in the Film it's self. I really Don't like the Costume at all, to be Honest.

I'll Reserve Final Judgement for when the film comes out ...., But so far with DC..., All Comicbook Movies leave me at Meh at best. I am more so Looking forward to the New GL Animated Series. I really think it will be great, Do Everything that the Comics can, and Cover More so Closer to the Mythos of Green Lantern than Hollywood want to tant all comicbook Characters with thier BS Spins that they for some reason think they need to tell something.

Dont get me wrong sir, I have seen Mr. Reynolds in a couple of different comedies and he is adequate - its just that the casting is VERY wrong.

As much as I love Benny Hill, I wouldnt want to see him cast as Superman, nor would I want to see Sarah Silverman cast as Wonder Woman.

I too was skeptical at first about the casting of Reynolds.

His smarminess and humor seemed better suited for other characters. However, the character of Hal Jordan, initially fits. If you read any of his origin stories, Hal Jordan is a selfish, unrepentant, rebellious loudmouth who happend to also be a pilot. He's a hothead with an attitude. That's Reynolds.

What he does with the character once he becomes GL and realizes his responibilities is the mystery. Jordan still retains some of his cockiness but it's balanced with a new-found maturity. Reynolds might be able to do this. I was not all that thrilled with the footage, but I think it's waaaaaay to early for me to start thinking the worst.

That is...different from what I was hoping. Well, I'll wait until I see the film before I make a call. Its a good cast and a very good effects crew. Judging the special effects that may not be finished or properly geared for the small screen yet is not a good idea at this stage. I'm still leaning on believing we have a good film here. I just can't believe that much talent could produce a miss. Just don't see it.
