Just got a chance to watch the latest Smallville, and I was impressed. Watched the series from stem to stern, and without a doubt this was the best episode.
Loved the flying scene at the end. The story had the flavor of some of the best anniversary stories from the silver and bronze age, when a hero looked back at how he got where he was (Action 500) or got a glimpse into the future (Batman 300).
While Dickens' Christmas Carol plot device has been used in nearly every way possible in flim and TV, when executed well, it still works.
Honestly, something like this was what I expected for a series finale, and I would have been happy if it had been. But now it seems, they are going to progress with taking Clark right up to being the Man of Steel.
I'll be surprised if the rest of the episodes are on par with this, but if they are in the same ballpark, it should continue to be a really fun season.
It's really wild how romantic the Lois and Clark relationship can be. The scenes with Clark and Lois on the rooftop was just plain sexy. I hope they continue to write Lois' part for Erica Durance this way the rest of the season.
The plot made a really nice point with the Superman characters. While we always think of how Superman's cast needs him, it's his relationships that keep him going and give him the courage and inspiration to be who he is.
Really good stuff.
