    Michael Turner's legacy

I was re-reading the Superman/Batman Supergirl book in preparation for the DVD this month and realized how different his style was from his peers. It also made me wonder how comics history will remember him. Will he be seen as an over-stylish, over-hyped artist who got a lucky break from Silvestri? Or will he be be known as a non-traditional comic artist who broke into the industry with boldness and enthusiasm carving out his own path?

I tend to think of him as a graphic designer who ended up drawing superheroes and hot chicks. I really, really like his stylized versions of the DCU. He brought a fresh perspective to decades old characters and sold a ton of books for DC simply because he did the cover. I was never a fan of Witcchblade, but I could appreciate his work on that title. Few artists could match him for small details like armor and I doubt anyone could match him for architectural design.

He may not go down as legendary, but he did his own thing and never changed or backed off, much like his health battle. I see him as brave on both fronts.

Plus he was just a super-decent guy to meet, really friendly. The tough part as far as legacy is that there are so many similar artists out there, many of them doing his characters.

He must have left a TON of sketches & unprinted art, because I still see new art from him on the Aspen stuff.

        I really liked Turner. R.I.P.

I actually read his Entire Run on WitchBlade.
Once he got Ill ...., He did turn more So into a Cover Artist, But I loved all of His Covers. His Superman/Batman Story, and Ultimately His re-Vamp of the SuperGirl Design is Probably his Best work, as well as the Best Costume Update Ever next to the Tim Drake Robin Costume imo.

I hope He's in a Better place, such a Sad loss to the Comicbook world imo.

I can't say I was always a fan of his style, but I respect the fact that he defined such a style, and stuck too it. His characters were elongated, and their musculature twisted, but he always did it consistently. He did draw beautiful women for sure, and brought a lot of energy to his work.

          I don't think he'll be forgotten.

              Me either

Don't get me wrong, he did some nice pin-up work and covers but I didn't really care for his sequential work in the interiors...Seemed to be yet another of a long line of "Image-inspired" artists who were locked in to a certain style that was best served by said pin-ups and covers...

              Just my two cents
