fully believe that this art will command at least $250,000 to $1,000,000 in the future. As far as investments go, you cannot go wrong with a one of a kind item. Original Cover Art that I sold for $300 TO $700 is going now for $5,000 to $7,000

    sure a million? I'll take 2

I'm not surprised, say you were 8 years old when this came out, it would have rocked your world.

The Michiline/McFarlane run on Spidey did indeed rock my world. I loved McFarlane's style at the time, like nothing I'd seen before. Plus he brought back the "spidery" look of Spidey, long since abandoned since Romita took over from Ditko.

In hindsight, the engergy is still there, but much of Todd's work is too hard to follow. But still, it was a jolt to old Spidey fans. Now when he wrote his own stuf... PU.

There has also been a lot of chatter lately about how recession-proof comics have been, and Golden Age keys and original art by certain artists do seem like a sure-bet.

Whether or not folks think that McFarlane was a positive or negative thing for the comics/toys industry as a whole, he was undoubtably a game-changer with a huge following during that era. Two decades later, many of those kids/teens are coming of age as adult collectors with disposable income, so I'm sure there is nowhere to go but up for those McFarlane pieces.

I'm sure Jim Lee X-Men pieces will also be skyrocketing. Even certain Liefeld pages... 1st Cable, 1st Deadpool. Not so sure about the other Image artists though. Maybe Dale Keown Hulk pages? Silvestri Wolverine?

Ohhh man - I completely remember flipping though a STACK of 70s Kirby pages like that. But the truth is at that time $200 might as well have been $2,000 to me.

$1,200 is still a great price - no?

What is truly sad is the fact that, IMHO, his work on Infinity Inc was soooooooo much better than any of his Marvel or Image work.

Been getting a couple of pages here and there lately myself...have yet to get an original cover. That will be my next goal as a Comic Art collector. Still happy that I can find an occasional bargain here and there:

POWER OF THE ATOM # 6 Pg. 12 (1988) by JOHN BYRNE!!! - eBay (item 300458767175 end time Aug-29-10 19:41:39 PDT)

Got the old orange card from the postman...picking this bad boy up as soon as I get out of work today. It's not a FF, X-Men, or Superman Byrne page...but it's still a nice Byrne page. It's also a page that he didn't try to ink himself...he definitely needs an inker these days.

the toddler is so goofed up, he himself may be the winning bidder!

He's certainly done weirder stuff....For example, an Oilers fan who was born and raised in Calgary. that there is all kinds of messed up!

I long for the McFarlane stuff on Spidey compared to what we get today

Back during his Coyote/Scorpio Rose, Batman Year 2, and Infinity Days, there was at least an attempt at storytelling.

By the time he got to Marvel, he had perfected his Style over Substance approach to the page. Todd the businessman was already brewing, with the idea that he could churn out more pages a month this way (and thus pencilling two books a month), and get a better price on his original art by making many of the interior pages Splash style pages as well.

According to Larry Hama, prior to Spiderman (and maybe The Hulk?), McFarlane was given the regular pencilling gig on GI Joe, but Hama fired him as soon as he saw that the pages weren't really telling the story that Hama was writing.

Ironically, this GI Joe issue was later published as a one-shot special with McFarlane's name splashed all over the solicitations, to take advantage of his newfound popularity after Spiderman (and Spawn I think).

My only question is why in the heck would someone who has been in the comic art and toy collectible business for 35 years use push pins to hang this on his wall?

I had a GI Joe issue drawn by the Toddster. It featured Chuckles and Law and Order as I recall.
