I've never been that big a fan of any of the Superman films so I don't know how excited I'd be about another film. However there are some things I'd like to see done with a new movie. Eventually there will be another movie.
    1. Anyone involved with the creative side of the film should not have worked on any previous Superman movie.
    2. Start from scratch. Redo the origin but in less time than it took Richard Donner. In the original film it's nearly an hour before Superman first appears.
    3. Cut down on Superman's powers. For me the character is far too powerful to be interesting or fun. It doesn't mean he has to go back to the Golden Age level of powers.
    4. No allusions to Superman as a Christ figure. That's not a criticism of religion I just think it's been over done.
    5. Don't cast a star or big name actor as the Man of Steel. Remind the leading man that Superman is the reality and Clark Kent the disguise. Christopher Reeve really nailed that aspect in the original movie.

Ya, the point I was trying to make is you can have a good Superman story with action and slow Clark Kent parts and balance it so each does not seem to be telling a different story.

(course if you're familiar with the elements I threw in you'd know it ends with the reveal that Mannheim is working for Morgan Edge, and that Morgan Edge is working for Desaad... and that lone figure who has an interest in the Kryptonian is Darkseid... with would set things up for a sequel or set of sequels if you'd like.)

Superman can still be powerful, and be taken down by less powerful foes, if the foes work smart.

Everytime a new writer comes onboard Superman the first thing they seem to do is either make him less Super or make the bad guys more Super... which in turns leaves Superman looking less Super. That's a sign of bad writing.

Look to Sherlock Holmes. Each adventure was exciting, and yes he always figured out the mystery... but he was still the smartest or most observant man in the room, and he didn't need to be dumbed down or given a smarter foe to go against JUST to have that adventure.

Just add the dark knight that's all I'm asking...

I like LadyZod's idea of starting the film with Supes inn the middle of a battle with a villain who will not be in the rest of the movie.
I think having Braniac as the villain, coming from outer space....then leading off into a sequel with Darkseid as the villain. he can appear at the end and they can show he was behind sending Brainiac.
I liked routh in the role as well and even though he was "playing" Chris reeves as Supes, think he would be fine in the role with a good script

What the film needs (and what Superman Returns lacked) was a huge fight scene with someone strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Superman. I want something like the Metropolis fight with Zod, Non, and Ursa... only BIGGER, and updated to reflect the technology of today. Something like that DC Universe trailer fight would be a good start. Heck, even look at some of the (now-dated) Matrix fights with Neo vs. Smith.

Get Hector and Tom Welling in a cameo type spot and I think a great way to start the flick and be the best footage for a trailor... Say Hector is the master chef at a greasy spoon with Welling being his dishwasgher... All of Hectors dialog would derive from the latest "Superman Saves The World" headline... Hector points out to the bumbling dishwasher after explaning in great detail about what truly makes a super hero, super (all the while slapping stuff on and off the griddle make a mess of the joint)... Welling seems oblivious until Hector's last line, "...and that's why YOU will always be a dishwasher." At which point a loud BA-BOOM is heard from outside the diner... the pair run to the window and see Superman swooping in to fix whatever caused the BA-BOOM. Welling smiles like a dope, Hector appears proud as he stares at Superman, turns and see's Welling to which he frowns ever so slightly and slaps him in the back of the head. Cut to black opening titles

How about doing a throwback story based on the original and early Action Comics Superman?

Meaning, a Superman with that old school 30s costume.

No super fantastical strength, no super speed, and no power of flight.

But more like the original...faster than a locomotive, leap tall building with a single bound...and just strong enough to pick up cars and smash doors...but that would be the extent of it.

...and his main villains would be common gangsters...and a mad scientist who builds a robot...who happens to be stronger than Superman.

                  I think that would rule.

That would work more for Television than a movie....you know once an exec hears no flying not super powerful Supes they'd have a panic attack.

Personally I'd love to see that and Batman 1939

No offense Hec, but isn't that the premise of Smallville

I was hoping you would find my little scene funny. i really do think it would be great!
