sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon. -
And I don't think Cap is finished yet. Look at the budget for GL, amazing that they have given the go ahead for a sequel.
BOX OFFICE: Captain America: The First Avenger Exceeds Expectations Internationally!
Thor (Paramount/Marvel)
Budget: $150 mil
Domestic: $180 mil
International: $267.2 mil
Worldwide: $448 mil
X-Men: First Class (20th Century Fox)
Budget: $140 mil
Domestic: $145.3 mil
International: $203.8 mil
Worldwide: $349.1 mil
Captain America: The First Avenger (Paramount/Marvel)
Budget: $140 mil
Domestic: $143.2 mil
International: $103 mil*
Worldwide: $246.2 mil
Green Lantern (Warner Bros.)
Budget: $200 mil
Domestic: $114.6 mil
International: $45.7 mil*
Worldwide: $160.3 mil
Thor is obviously more favored in foreign markets than Captain America...that much is obvious....but Thor also won the domestic battle.
I highly doubt Captain America will go much further up in the box office ranks.
X-Men was a surprise little hit...pretty cool.
I'm sorry to report...but Green Lantern was a major bomb ($40 million loss)...even if there's talk of a sequel...I doubt is going to happen. I even think reboot could be in the works instead. Not looking good for the Lantern dude.
BTW...X-Men First Class was my personal favorite of the lot.sigpicComment

Captain America needs an extra $200 million to match Thor's worldwide numbers...heck, Captain America still needs an extra $37 million to catch up to Thor domestically this late in the game...it ain't happening.Last edited by Hector; Aug 17, '11, 8:09 PM.sigpicComment

I wonder how the lackluster performance of GL effects his placement in a potential JLA movie....especially if there is not a sequel and Reynolds bails on the role. Does WB reboot the character with someone else (ala The Hulk in The Avengers) for the sake of a JLA movie?Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

While he probably won't catch up to Thor, Cap will probably still continue to make decent money for a few more weeks, just due to the fact that the summer movie race is over. Not much "WOW" at the theaters now, so theaters won't pull him as fast as Thor or X-Men...or GL.
But as far as foreign box office is concern?
Not in this universe...perhaps on a parallel universe...but not this one...Captain America just didn't achieve Thor's numbers overseas...
Thor: $267,166,560
Captain America: $134,524,928
Thor did way better in foreign markets than here in the USA.
Captain America is not beloved overseas like other superheroes (and we all know why)...interestingly enough though, Captain America's biggest box office outside the USA was in Mexico...followed by Brazil, United Kingdome, Autralia, and the biggest shock of them all...Russia...lol...

That means Mexico loves the USA the most!

'Green Lantern' Sequel to be 'Darker' and 'Edgier', Just as it Should Be - ComicsAlliance | Comic book culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviewsComment

I think the reason why Thor beat Cap is that Cap also came out sandwich between Harry Potter and The Smurfs. It was a lot tougher time slot that Thor had.
WOW. Who would've thought that a Thor movie would have done as well as it did 20 or even 30 years ago.Comment

Don't let Thunderbolt's smear campaign get you down. The sequel is on.

And Ryan Reynolds doesn't seem to know either. Seems like he would, unless he's getting kicked to the curb.
