Like it or not, that alone is the likely reason for this reboot / reimagining, and they clearly are starting this with a huge open door to restore things, so even the upper muckity mucks at DC know they need a way to limit the fallout, while still generating an event to bring up the sales.

Nothing has REALLY stuck since the original Perez reboot, from some 20 years ago (in '87).

After that, she lost the title of "Wonder Woman" (it went to Artemis) and got all leathered-up under the pencils of Mike Deodato.

Then came the John Byrne experiment where he seemed to focus more on Hippolyta as Wonder Woman and creating a new Wonder Girl and fixing the continuity of the older Wonder Girl.

Phil Jimenez came in next and did stuff that could basically be called "Perez Part II". A good run though, probably the 2nd best in modern times IMO.

Walt Simonson did a short run that reintroduced the white jumpsuited powerless Diana concept originally seen in the 60s.

Greg Rucka then tried to reboot and modernize the Olympian Gods, while also revamping WW's foes. It was under his watch that WW killed Max Lord.

Following Infinite Crisis, the title was relaunched under Allan Heinberg...who, when he wasn't delaying the book with his TV producing work, once again de-powered WW and put her in a white jumpsuit and made her a secret agent.
His run was short-lived, as was....

Jodi Picoult's...which was very uneventful, other than DC touting that WW was now being written by an acclaimed female author. Whatever....

I had high hopes when Gail Simone came on board but she didn't have the impact on the book/character that I thought she would, which leads us to..

      J. Michael Straczynski...Sigh

So that's the last 23 years of Wonder Woman in a nutshell, folks!

I don't know whatever happened to Adam Hughes proposed "All-Star" run but I had wish they had gone with someone like him who could probably do the character justice instead of some of these other writers....

I really liked the Greg Rucka storyline. The fight between Diana and the Medusa was bada**. Hated the Walt Simonson run. The John Byrne run had some decent stories, but he just made things more confusing, especially the stuff with Donna Troy. Heinberg's secret agent idea had potential, but Diana seemed very much out of character. I forget - was it during his run or Jodi Picoult's that Diana went to the superhero-themed amusement park, and had no concept of money or cell phones? Hello, she's friends with Bruce Wayne. She knows what money is. With those added comments, I agree with most of what Anothony posted.

Edited to add: I love Adam Hughes' artwork, but have never read his writing. He knows the character well enough, I'd be willing to see his take on her.

I guess I'm an average DC fan, and I am oblivious to everything Anthony posted in his summary of the last 20yrs of WW. Loved the version of her in JL....otherwise pretty apathetic. I hate to see a classic hero butchered, but some temporary event that comes and goes doesn't bother me all that much. I'm patiently waiting for Superman to be Superman again, and Batman to be Bruce. I'm sure Diana will be Diana again at some point, even though that means different things to different people. I would feel differently if DC was coming at us like they did with Hal Jordan and insisted it was all over.

Looks like she jumped straight out of her awesome costume and right into an issue of some 90's Image Comics nightmare.

Wasn't the Simonson run when they tried to generate publicity by having Diana cut her locks? Seems like they're always changing her costume/looks to bump some sales.

There should be a website that hosts "superhero Cliffs' Notes"
for each character like the "WW nutshell" post Anthony made...it'd be quite
helpful I think. I'm sure many like me are interested to know the chronology
but are too lazy to play "catch up".

I can't really say I read Her book ,... and never on a Regular Basis...
However, I have read a ton of stuff Last yr, and this yr , where She has Appeared in . I would hate for her to show up ..., in these books again, or future pick ups with this suit.

DC always Pitches Her in the " Big 3 " .
I don't think She's been in the real "Big 3" in Decades ... , They want Her so Badly to Have the sales that others do , Hence the Constant Re-boot , She just had 1 , 3 yrs or so Go, and the book started out with Agent Diana, and Donna running around in a WW Suit . I believe. I got a couple of those, but quickly dropped the book.

I liked WW on JL & JLU ...., and Also the WW Animated film.
If I got a WW like that in the books ..., I'd probably buy .

Yep. And it made national news. Adam Hughes was called upon for a quote. I actually found it. "And I have never talked to more reporters in my life than the month Wonder Woman's haircut premiered. One of them was all very Rona Barrett, gossipy. "So Wonder Woman's haircut! What gave you the idea?" This was March 2003, and I actually said, "Didn't we just invade another country? Isn't there something slightly more newsworthy than the haircut of a 60-year-old cartoon character?" And she was like, "So, short hair?""

The new outfit made ABC news tonight, with Lynda Carter no less giving her approval. They interviewed Jim Lee about it.

What's Lynda Carter really going to say on national tv, "It sucks. F*** you Jim Lee"?
