Every time they do something like this its epic fail. This doesn't look too bad though. I give it about 8 months and they'll go back to her normal outfit.

I am also constantly astounded at how much more relevant Wonder Woman seems to be within the GLB Community these days than traditional Feminist circles. (I say this knowing that the streets will be filled with Wonder Woman costumes this weekend as Toronto celebrates it's PRIDE week).Comment

I wonder if DC isn't toying with the notion of downplaying the costume aspect of their characters. Maybe it's the Smallville influence creeping in?
Remember Marvel tried that tact with Secret IDs and their characters just a few years ago. Then they got themselves into quite a mess with Spidey, and had to get out of it.
Oh wait, that was JMS.
The guy's a menace, I tells ya!

To preface this I am speaking general terms. Obviously many male comic fans here deeply respect and care for Wonder Woman. To my fellow Wonder Woman fans, you guys rock and these comments aren't directed at you.
I hate to say this but I 'm sure a lot of this has to go with that there are people still threatened by the character.
Unlike Batgirl or Supergirl, who are female versions of male heroes, Wonder Woman is her own unique character. She also isn't just a sidekick or a girlfriend to a popular male character. She is beautiful but just isn't there to arch her back and wink at the male reader and say look at my boobs like Power Girl.
She is also incredibly strong and one of the few heroes in the DC universe that can go toe to toe with Superman. I remember watching the bonus features on the New Frontier DVD and the artist drew Wonder Woman taller than Superman and commented some guys still have trouble dealing with a woman that big and strong.
Superhero comics have predominately become a medium for men and they tend to view the male heroes as idolized versions of themselves and the female characters are drawn as what they find attractive. Wonder Woman doesn't fit that mold.
So DC yet again wants to make her less threatening like when they depowered her in the 60s. She is de-aged, de-powered and no longer a founding member of the Justice League. She is no longer the equal of Superman and Batman. She is now 19 year old no one has heard of before. Her entire history has been erased. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

Life is much more complex than that, I can't say I'm often not guilty of thinking in terms of similar absolutes. I still recall doing a spit-take while out drinking with some buddies where most of us agreed that Linda Carter was the most desirable woman of our youth. That was when one friend came out of the closet by giving the contrary opinion that he did not desire Wonder Woman, he wanted to BE Wonder Woman.
Here is a group of Wonder Woman fans who see her as idolized versions of their male ideal at Toronto Pride. Are you saying that their viewpoints don't count?
Meanwhile, at the official "Dyke March"

You still haven't clarified your stand against pants and corset from Hot Topic vs the traditional booty shorts (which can also be bought at Hot Topic) and what that has to do with how a Greek Goddess should look. Should Wonder Woman's new outfit be a toga? On the one hand you complain against overt sexualization of the character, but isn't putting her in pants exactly the direction you should be getting behind if you feel that ***-shots are inappropriate for Wonder Woman comics?Comment

This is exactly what I'm talking about in terms of traditional feminism, and where third wave feminism took us beyond that into the nineties. This kind of conceit marginalizes other viewpoints and discounts those that don't tow within the narrow confines of how you define Masculinity and Feminism.
Life is much more complex than that, I can't say I'm often not guilty of thinking in terms of similar absolutes.
Don't get me wrong. I'm all for equality.
Women ought to be entitled to everything and all, et cetera.
Except...sometimes I think what they really want is to be men.
Like men are all equal in the first place. We're not.
I remember years ago...there wasn't talk about
what a woman was, what a man was.You just were what you were.
Now they have all this stuff about being like the other sex...
...so you can all be the same. Well, I'm sorry, but we're just not.
Not on a farm, anyway. Bulls are bulls, and roosters don't try to lay eggs.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

The DCU would be smart to take into consideration
that WONDER WOMAN, SUPERMAN, BATMAN, LEX LUTHOR and THE JOKER
are all equally the most powerful in that universe....it's a good idea to do
this because it helps build their brand and it pleases many fans like myself at the same time. If you take your most popular characters and portray them
as the supreme winners...MOST of the time....it gives a consistency to
that universe and it makes fans feel it and cherish it just like they do their
own family.
No one recognized this better (from what I've seen) than the guys on the
Dini/Timm stuff. They even ended the WHOLE freakin' series
with "LEX LUTHOR beating DARKSEID" for cripe's sakes.
This of course being in the same universe where THE JOKER would've
killed/beat LUTHOR if things weren't tainted by BATMAN in THE WORLDS
FINEST episode.
And as far as WONDER WOMAN goes in the Timmverse...she beat the snot
out of SUPERMAN in that museum scene in the FELIX FAUST episode.
Anyways...depowering WONDER WOMAN is stupid and not only artistically
...but in a BUSINESS sense for the head honchos at DC.Last edited by huedell; Jun 30, '10, 5:02 PM."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Question, does anyone even read Wonder Woman regularly?
Like it or not, that alone is the likely reason for this reboot / reimagining, and they clearly are starting this with a huge open door to restore things, so even the upper muckity mucks at DC know they need a way to limit the fallout, while still generating an event to bring up the sales.
