What is the best comic company outside the big two?

Who do you think is publishing the best stuff right now outside of the Marvel and DC?

Avatar? IDW? Dark Horse? Image? Dynamite? Moonstone? Oni? Boom?

    Other?

What do you think they are doing right? What are your favourite books from your favourite company? Characters? Creators?

          Hmmmm....

MU Press/AEON does the Post Bros, so I gotta give them a hand. Most of what I read nowadays is VIZ/Shonen Jump, or self published. (Usually online.) My thing is that I like different; and a lot of what the companies you mention looks like more of the same. (Or it IS more of the same, 'cos it's a property they picked up.)

Dark Horse. They have original stuff like The Goon and Hellboy along with big liscensed stuff like Star Wars and Conan. Throw in some really good archive lines and you've got a pretty solid publisher.

As much as I dislike many of the super hero titles I love Image's Elephantmen, Walking Dead, and Amazing Joy Buzzards. Image puts out some pretty good stuff now and again.

I gotta ask. Outside of publishing Donna Barr's groundbreaking Gay series The Desert Peach, and Matt Howarth's stuff (which is a great deal of fun), isn't MU Primarily a Furry/Furry Porn specialty imprint?

I'm not very educated on "Furry" culture, but what sets it apart from the other Furry publishers? What makes it "different"?

I would have to also say Dark Horse.

Since you said best, I would have to agree with the Dark Horse crowd. Really, the Chrysler to Dc and Marvels GM and Ford.

I gotta say if you were asking for Favorite, I would have to say IDW. the Trek comics they have done are probably the best ones ever produced...at least for the classic show. havent read any of the others. My only problem is, they are quick to put out the graphic novel-collected editions. So quick, I quit buying the individual issues because I know the collected edition will be out at the same time as the last issue of the series.

If AC did color, I'd have picked them.

These days... I would have said Dark Horse a few years back...but they've gone down hill in my opinion. I'd have to say Dynamite for the mere fact that they are doing CLASSIC characters. Back in the day...I'd have to say it was a toss up between PC/First, Eclipse, and Dark Horse which basically came out of Comico.

Dynamite is my favorite. The Lone Ranger, Zorro, Project Superpowers, The Man With No Name, Buck Rogers, The Green Hornet. The only title I tried from them that I didn't like was Red Sonja.

Red 5 is good too. Atomic Robo is the best new character since TMNT in my opinion.
