I'd rather watch the old 40s serial than the other Cap movies. It's really a fun watch.

I just watched this for the first time in years. My son enjoyed it quite a bit. It has it's good points. Salinger is actually pretty believable in the suit, I just wish he was in it more. Despite the annoying habit of keeping Steve and Red Skull in "normal" mode for over 75% of the flick, there seems to be an underlying sincerity to the film. They just didn't have the budget and know-how to pull it off effectively.

There are some really badly executed sequences (the whole rocket thing is lame-o, even by late 80s standards), but the climax battle scenes are fairly well done. The movie seems to stop dead whenever Cap is out of costume. And the Red Skull's face got, what, maybe 3 minutes of screen time?

Overall, it's not as bad as others have said. We've seen far worse in the intervening years, I guess!

With many mentions of the director's minimal camera time for less believable
aspects most likely due to budget concerns, it sounds like a smart
self-aware production compared to, say, SUPES 4 which awkwardly
flaunted the chinks in it's "production armor".

And, yes, I remember enjoying watching my tape of it way back when---
admittedly, I'd probably not like it HALF as much now as I did then,
as it was released way before the later deluge of superhero films
and I was so excited by BATMAN '89, I was up for ANYthing like this.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix

The film starts out so well, save for Captain America completely failing on his first mission and then it's 45 minutes of Steve Rogers running away from fashion models in Yugoslavia.

The ending is marred by Pyun's inabilty to let the camera linger during an action scene.
The problem was lack of action, dull movie, lame portrayal of villain

I enjoyed the fact that Cap's mask had rubber ears
