There is alot wrong with the film
the soundtrack is absymal late 80's rock which doesn't fit the vibe

    Red skull is an italian
Matt Sallinger (who is JD sallinger's kid) is not belivable as the pre cap steve.
The suit is really bad - it is actually uglier than the bat and flash suits of the 90's

it's better than some late 80's and 90;s hero films but not by alot.

Darrin Mcgavin is great but he usually is - look at Dead heat

From what I remember, I liked the TV show Cap more than this movie. I'll have to try watching this again.

I haven't seen it in probably 15 years or more. I recall thinking it had some merits. I followed it's development in Comic Scene magazine, only to find out it wasn't going to be released in theaters. That was the first time I ever heard of such a thing happening.

I have that movie and it's definitely a "B" effort to say the very least. It's one of those films I put in when I just want a taste of Captain America, but I'm not placing any serious measure on what I'm watching. It's a fun movie, but no where near being a proper film. The acting is cheesy and the lines lack any believability. Plus lets face it - "Will Robinson" as a General in the Army? Give me a break!

I don't hate it, it is a shame that the people making it thought people wouldn't like looking at a red skull for the whole movie so they gave him plastic surgery. Also supposedly the reson you only see Cap in costume for such a short time is the same reason. There is supposed to be extra scenes that were filmed although I have never scene them.

So until the new one this is the best we have.

One can say the new one has to be better than this!

Yes, I remember reading (probably in Starlog back then) that the director thought it was more interesting if the Red Skull had plastic surgery and if Steve spent most of the movie in civilian clothes. It dimmed my excitment for the movie and I thought the guy sure wasn't into making a real Superhero movie. Someone had to agree since they never released it.
Eventually bought a bootleg and have seen it on TV a couple times. If you think of it as a 80's TV movie it's not so bad. Even with the rubber ears.
And I do like the theme song at the end. Also liked the sheild sound effects at the end in the castle. Heavy metal whooshing and clanging off the stone walls. Just sounded like Caps shield should to me.
              Better late than never.....

It was commercially released as a direct to video VHS and laserdisc and there are many sources for dvd-r copies of it from VHS

the fight at the end is the only part of the film worth watching

I remember seeing posters in the subway with nothing but the shield. I knew it was a direct rio from the '89 Batman promo posters with nothing but the bat, but I was excited nonetheless. I wondered why I never heard about it again until I ran into on TV years later. Then I knew.

Another winner from Albert Pyun, a guy who has his film premieres at Blockbuster.

The film starts out so well, save for Captain America completely failing on his first mission and then it's 45 minutes of Steve Rogers running away from fashion models in Yugoslavia.

The ending is marred by Pyun's inabilty to let the camera linger during an action scene.

Was there ever any other Cap movies except the 1990 one ?

Reason i'm asking, I could swear there was a 70's one too.

There was a cap movie Serial in the 40s where he had no shield (no ear wings either) and wasn't Steve Rogers. My wife brought home the VHS from her Library (someone donated it), but I've yet to watch it.

Cap has never gotten the cinematic respect he deserves. He's never even had his own cartoon, except for the Marvel Super Heroes shorts from the 60s.
