What If Batman Had a New Tv show?

I pitched WB television a gritty, comic book style, Batman series five years ago, in the style of Batman Dead End-- Muscular guy in a cloth suit. My idea was to do different famous Batman comics (Dark Knight Returns, Long Halloween, Gotham by Gaslight, Year One, Killing Joke, etc...) as 2 to 4 part miniseries, as a weekly TV series. They seemed uninterested, saying that they felt it wouldn't be popular.

I Think a TV series based character wise off of the Dead end show you show cased would have been the biggest thing batman ever did since the 60's!!!
As long as your pitching shows why don't you give Joss whedon a call and tell him to relight the "Firefly".You'll help him out...“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

"what if Batman had a New TV show ? "
... It would look like General Hospital with a few Special Effects here and there.
Oohhh, wait, That's Smallville .... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.
always trading for Hot Toys Figures .Comment

Agreed. I really enjoyed Dead End and think that type of presentation would work well as an hour long show. A Year One adaptation would be so fun to watch.Comment

I think you're reading something into what I wrote that isn't there. I didn't say I wanted camp...I want action, adventure and fun...not Adam West.
He can be dark and still be fun. JLU proves this. A bit of a mic between camp and the super dark Batman. Middle ground. Sort of on the lines of B&B but perhaps a bit more dark. BTAS-ish?
But you are forgetting that Batman year one 1939 Batman's world was grim and Gritty and not campy at all. The generation that was raised on those first comics were depression era kids who were raised on Hard boiled tough talking GUN shooting heroes...
Campy Batman came along later on........as a matter of fact by the 60's Batman was watered down and on the verge of cancelation.....it wasn't until he was bought back to his Dark gritty roots that he got popular again.Comment

How about a future CBS installment of Survivor with all the fromer Batman actors?
Tribe A:
Adam West
Michael Keaton
Clark Bartram (the actor who played Batman in Dead End)
Tribe B:
George Clooney
Val Kilmer
Christian Bale
Winner takes all!

A hybrid of the 66 show with something a bit more along the lines of Batman Year One would be cool. Wild over the top villains with a more serious Bats. Just like the 66 show, stars would be lining up for a guest shot playing Killer Moth or Black Mask. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Although arguably there wasn't much of a lull between the two (three?) most recent superhero generations if we view Superman III and Greatest American Hero as the deconstruction/spoof and the '89 Batman movie as the launch of a new cycle). I suspect that might have more to do with advances in SFX than anything else.Last edited by samurainoir; Mar 1, '10, 8:10 AM.Comment

>there wasn't much of a lull between the two (three?) most recent superhero generations
I've wondered for a little while how this sort of transition actually works. Things do seem to move in recognizable patterns (and not just entertainment) but I think the magnitude changes. (So, the last time around the western didn't have as much impact as it did in the 50's, but it still happened.) To that end, I sometimes wonder if nothing ever REALLY goes away, but when the magnitude changes things move to the background. There are always superheroes somewhere, but every so often the average person stops caring.
